tranny's

was wondering what every one was running in a aftermarket tranny, auto only?
i am going to be taking the plunge on a new tranny, and would like some advantages/dis, on the different companies to choose from.
not looking to start a war or any bashing , just want the facts on real every day use.
how they shift , and are holding up to power mods, warranty issues and how they were solved, etc.
i want to stack another box and want to tow more, and the stock auto is getting weaker and would like to get some thing before it's too late.

All I have is a DTT converter and Valve body in my 47RE and it has performed flawlessly with my mods. I used to run an EZ on level 4 or 5 and now the Quad race box with no problems to date... If I was going to make any more power than this current setup I would be getting a whole trans with billet shafts, better clutches, etc. You can get a better trans for around $4000.00 but if you want one that's gonna hold up to anything you throw at your truck it will run you $6000.00+.

I too have DTT and went with TC-VB-Billet input-billet servos and this tranny bangs hard no matter if i'm WOT. True believer with Bill at DTT in what he does with trannys!

Good Luck with your tranny quest!

I have the suncoast tranny, and I really love it now. I did have to have this tranny warrantied, though. It was slipping on a downshift acceleration. Suncoast was awesome about replacing it and now it is perfect!! One bit of advice, Get the ATS lock up controller, it really helps.

ATS Diesel builds some pretty mean trannys. They have 6 stages to choose from.

What does it cost to rebuild the stock unit compared to the $4k for a modified?

I really do not think that ATS has the fastest truck in town....With that said, I love my DTT and have had zero problems with it and boy do I put it through some abuse. Mike

thanks for the info , keep it coming , pros and cons.
i did look into the rebuild from a local tranny shop, that i have been dealing with for over 15 years now, and they told me that they couldn't build me a tranny and offer that kind or warranty like the bigger companies like ATS, BD, DTT, etc.
by the time the get all the parts that they need(upgraded stuff)
and then the labour to pull , rebuild, install, and warranty, they said i am better off just ordering one, have them install it, and no hassels on warranty issuses that way.
just not sure which one to get, and every thign that i need /don't need.
not sure how the lock up controller works, but any one here have one and would like to comment, or any other divise that i might need.
i would take this truck to the track all the time, nor do i tow every day, but i just want it to do it with out any problems when i do. i also put lots of miles on every year.

Take a look at Georand Bros. Maybe closer to you, Dave is a straight shooter.
