After a right rear flat today I noticed the 285 Toyo AT's im running are not what I ordered from 4Wheel Parts. I thought I was getting an "E" tire and these are D's. I wasnt aware that it came in a D. Then I saw the big made in japan on them and decided its time to do some tire research. I'm about a month away from needing new tires and was wondering which tires are USA made, MT's, and are "E" or atleast hold up good to heavy pulling, four wheeling, etc...

The Michelens that came on my truck are made in the usa. and they are not that great (see the sidewall cracking warrenty threads). Some things just arn't that great that are made here in the US due to regulations...mostly the EPA. I'm not saying that they arn't good, I'm just not sure they use the best quality rubber or casting methods available. On another note Japan has a much stricter "EPA" looking over them....at anyrate E rated is the way to go!!!

 

I've got the load range 'E' 285 Toyo's on my '07. Les Schwab in the Pac Nortwest provided them. In big letters though on the sidewall states "Made in China" Oh well! Killer tires no matter where they're made.

 

That's why you gotta run the big rig tires! I have H rating on the front and L rating in the rear!

 

The 295/70R17 Toyo M/T "E" tires on my truck say made in the USA on them. I've only got a couple thousand miles on them, so I can't say how they will hold up. I haven't done real heavy towing and little off-road so far.

The most surprising thing about these tires is how amazing they do in the rain compared to the stock BFG Rugged Trail. I can get on it in a straight line from a stop and they rarely break loose where the stockers would break loose as soon as boost was made.

 

Wiggs, Love how your truck looks but I really like a more aggressive tread. Those Wheels are huge and are the best if your a highway only kinda guy. If there are more aggressive big rigs avaliable then let me know, I would be interested in whatever my options are. Where are those tires made by the way?

Red I, I know what your sayin but im willing to give all the american tire companies a try before I just accept that forein made tires are all thats avaliable. I know maybe im just set in my ways but I am willing to try things, even at my expense, to support any american company I can.

Danderson, I know that the Toyo's are a great tire but I'm just not willing to pay extra ($327 for 315's) for a tire made the same place most of the rest of the things we are forced to buy as Americans.

I wish I could accept the demise of American manufacturing but as a buisness owner I am concerned.

 

No idea where they are made. Most likely Japan since they are Sumitomos. The main reason I am doing the lift is to go to a more aggressive tire. The Sumitomos are the most aggressive you can go with a stock height truck. You should see what the highway tires look like!! I am going up to a 295/75 all terrain so it shoul dbe very nice for off-road conditions!

 

I was really surprised to find the China label on these Toyos too! I understand a Toyo plant is online or about to be completed in the Southeast. I'll stick with Toyos because they cured my chronic vibration problems on my '99 which began with the installation of BFG Ko's and ended with the purchase of Toyo m-55's. Noisier than I'd like but round and ride smooth as glass. My 55's were made in Japan. I was amazed Toyo is going to $0.50/hr. labor.

 

My 305/55/20s are made in Japan too , much better than the Nittos I had.

 

I believe all Cooper/Mastercraft and their other name brands are all made in the USA

 

I thought that was the case with mostly all of the tires. Guess I'll have to look more closely in the future. Are Truxus tires USA made? They worked pretty good on the half ton.

 

My local dealer told me that Cooper is the only USA made tire that uses materials that are also from the USA. According to him other American made tires use imported raw materials.
He told me if I had to have another brand (BFG's) he could get them but he prefers USA products.
This guy is a Vet and all around great guy. I have no way of proving what he says but I do believe him. If What I said is wrong let me know
