Here we go again. It's that time of the year. I know that the new trucks use a temp system that estimates something close to true water temps so all we can really do is look for trends or changes. When towing heavy or on long hot passes is anyone having overheat problems? As the weather warms up is anyone showing temps toward the right hand side of your gauge??

 

I got to 210 this weekend 4700# boat trailer, 15 mile uphill grade at 45 mph.

 

Mine will go well above the 200 mark, like halfway between 200 and 245 (I think that's the high number, don't remember for 100% sure though...) quite often when pulling, even in the winter months.

 

Doing my heavy towing now accross the great USofA. I have seen seen temps around 210 when running 63-65 going up the big hills while passing most of the big rigs that are running in the Great Granny restricted lane
Oh yeah, thats running the I-84/I-80 route and then thru the Great Smokies.
All you need to do is set the cruise and sit back and hold on, make sure you get in the passing lane without having to back out of it or you can forget about it, unless you can catch it prior to getting bogged down

 

I pulled my 5er up 12% grade up to 9000ft last week-end. My stock water temp gauge
was one needle thickness over the 200 mark. Of course is was 65 degrees outside too.
Even last summer I never saw it go over 215-220 on a hot day either in traffic of cresting
a Colorado mountain pass.

 

If your truck starts getting hot, turn on the A/C! As crazy as it sounds it works because it makes the fan turn on and the hotter the truck is the more air the fan will pull. Try it......

 

My brothers '01 was heating up pretty quickly pulling about 4500 lbs. but we discovered the reason to be a dirty radiator front. He lives in So. CA and had a ring of dust/dirt on the front of the radiator that matched the fan blades in size. We cleaned it out with bug remover and hose and never had a problem after that.
