towing temps stock

I have a '92 W350 Dodge Cummins 5sp with 354 rears. I just bought a fifth wheel camper that grosses at 11k. The truck is stock. I will be adding an afe air filter and cleaning up the exhaust. Will I be in any temp dangers such as EGT's? She pulls the camper pretty well but I do notice that I put the throttle on the floor when goin up a grade. I know this is probably normal but with a stock setup like mine are there any dangers?

Thanks for the info and help

Gary

Re:towing temps stock

Gary, when my truck was stock, (it's a '93), it would push the egt's right up past 1100 degrees easy, especially at lower rpms. I never tried to see how high they would go. It was o.k. above about 1750 rpm or so. One thing I did that really helped was install a 16 cm turbo housing. I also have a 4' exhaust. This brought the egt's down a good bit. That leads to turning the fuel up, and you won't believe how much nicer it is to drive. Clarence

Clarence

Thanks again for the info. Yeah I was tryin to keep er stock. I was afraid that it wouldn't have enough to pull the fifth wheel before I got er. She ain't now rocket but she will pull er ok. I was trying to get out of "bombin" if I could. Don't want to hurt er though I love that truck.

Thumbs,
I'm a tad newer with a95 but my EGT would run about 1150 with a slightly heavier trailer on a hard pull. I would think you'll be OK stock but the guages, especially the EGT wouldn't hurt.

Bill

Gary,
If you find that the truck is starting to lug, then shift down into 4th gear this will bring the temperature down.
---
Al

Re:towing temps stock

I have a 92 and used to a Lance camper with every option available. It was one heavy mother. I had no problem hauling it. I did lose a O.D. carrier bearing which was fixed under warranty. I pull a 31 ft travel trailer now, no sweat.
JJ
