Tourque Tube and ScottyIII compatability?
Tourque Tube and ScottyIII compatability?
1. Anyone know if a Tourque Tube and ScottyIII cold air intake are compatable, or are they apples and oranges.
2. Are the ScottyIII and AFE PG7 about the same quality setups and which one is easier to clean and maintain? ((no intake wars please) just the facts man!!!)
Thanks Jamie

The oiled foam filter scotty uses will out filter anything else. That's why dirt bikes use oiled foam filters. It flows plenty well. Plus, you get COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL air from the fenderwell, and only the fenderwell.
Couldn't tell you for sure about the torque tube and the RAIII, but I think they can work together, IIRC. But don't quote me.

Ditto on the oiled foam filter! Traps more dirt (100% actually), flows about the same or better than pleated gauze, and is much easier to clean.
Scotty III w/Uni open cell foam filter & an AFE Torque Tube...I don't think it gets any better than that!

Is this something new that I'm missing? The scotty3 that I have came with an AFE K&N type pleated filter, not foam. It also takes air from the front grille and fenderwell, not just the fenderwell anestech. Have there been changes or have you guys actually never seen a scotty3?
Over the past several months there has been a change to UNI filters. Better filtration, much better quality.
The Scotty III takes air from the fender inlet and the front...hence the real name...RAM AIR III. Most folks call it the Scotty III though.
There should be a full replacement intake tube on the market shortly.

Scotty,
When you mention a "full replacement intake tube" are you referring to a new product you will be releasing? I've been really procrastinating on updating my intake tube as I only want to buy one and be done.
Also, can you post some numbers on your UNI filter filtration and flow vs. ProGuard 7? I thought the UNI didnt filter as well.

Yes, Diesel Power Products is looking after the development of the replacement for the factory turbo inlet hose.
In regards to filtration. We are compiling oil analysis' and when time permits there will be some flow testing done. It will be difficult to offer a true comparison apples to apples with the Pro Guard 7.
There is/are no Pro Guard 7 filters that fit my products. After learning from folks that race in Baja and other very dusty and talcum powder like environments, we sought out to provide a two stage foam filter after gathering info on what works best at filtering and flowing air in the harshest environments.
Kent at KORE was very helpful with this feedback as well as many others in different environments.
The results so far are as follows:
Better quality
better air flow with no pin holes of light peeking thru.
Easier to clean and maintain
egt reductions are slightly better too.
UNI has proven to be a great company that listened to what we needed and met the task in a timely and professional manner that far exceeded our previous experiences.

1. The torque tube will fit with the Scotty RA-III and we are currently working to soon offer a 1 piece silicone intake tube. This tube will have a couple of advantages with its smooth bore interior and ability to insulate intake air from under hood heat.
2. The foam filters are much easier to clean because no outer wire cage is on the foam so it can be squeezed and rubbed to help remove dirt. Also the outer course filter can be removed from the element and washed seperately like a sponge. Another factor that makes the foam superior to the cotton filters is oiling. Excess oil can be matted away with a paper towel or squeezed out. You can't do that with a cotton filter. Also over oiling can ruin a cotton filter by sticking the fibers together and creating small holes dirt can pass through. That can't happen with the foam.
One more aspect is performance, we tried the Scotty RA-III in a 2004 here in our shop with a cotton filter to start with, then changed it to the foam. You could feel the performance increase with the foam and we saw about a 25F degree drop in EGTs cruising at 65mph on the highway.
