Took the the Smarty off.........PROBLEMS... Please help

To say I'm unhappy is an understatement.... I'll try to make this short.

This morning I go out to warm up my truck. 40 degrees. I start it, the timing rattle is INSANE, it does this for like 3-4 seconds then calms down. It runs fine all the way to work. I was in a hurry so I told myself I would take it off after I got off. I ended up working a long shift today and it was 9 oclock. I was in a hurry to get to Cheddars to meet my Girlfriend for dinner.

I start the truck up and again, the SAME thing. timing rattle for 3-4 seconds. After I ate, I unloaded the Smarty off of my truck.

I get on the interstate and immediately notice that my truck is in limp mode. It will not pull itself past 60mph unless your going down hill.

The ABS light is on. And the parking brake light is on. (it should only flash when its set)

-----------------------------------------------------------

Now I'm home. I just unhooked the batteries and I'm going to let it sit for 15 minutes and go back out and see if that fixes it. I'll try to load the bully dog back on the truck to see if that will possible re-write the programming

I've had more problems in the last THREE days with the Smarty than I've had with the bully dog in the 20,000 miles that it has been on the truck.

What do you guys think?

Lucas

I think it's time to call mr. wagner and let him know what's going on. You may have gotten a bum smarty. Unlikely but there's always a first.

I just talked to a guy on the phone for some help and this isn't the first time there has been problems with getting it off of a truck.

I'll give Bob a call in the morning.

I remember a buddy of mine loaded his smarty on to one truck and then couldn't get it off cause it locked on and wouldn't let go. Don't remember how they fixed it though. This is new technology and there are bound to be snags. I'm sure that Bob will get you taken care of in short order.

Ok try this..

Luke,

Reload the smarty back to level 1 (or whatever level you like). Let it complete. Shut key off, turn key on, read codes.. Clear codes...

Shut key off again. Hook smarty back up. Return it stock again.

I had 1 time when I returned to stock and it got botched and the ABS light and the BRAKE light stayed lit and the truck wouldn't get out of its own way.

Reloading a CatCher level 1 and then returning to stock seemed to take care of it.

There was an update for Smarty that affected some 2005 models. I think it had something to with Catcher level 5 only but I am not sure on that.

Please try to load #1 and then return to stock. See if it helps!

I just worked on it for a bit. I did the trick with the battery cables. It alone fixed part of the problem. The brake light was flashing like is should be.

A guy on the phone told me to try the back up 50ft, pull foward, shut truck off thing. I did that two times and about gave up but on the third time the lights DIDN'T come on.

The truck was still in limp mode. I took it out on my dirt road and it literally wouldn't spin the tires in gravel. I turned around and came back home. I debated on trying to load the bully dog. I had no clue if it would screw something up worse. I loaded it and everything is GOOD now.

Big thanks to the guys on the forums and the guys I talked to on the phone. You know who you are!

I can't believe it went back ok. I thought I was screwed! All this time bombing my truck and I've never had a problem like this... Trust me, it makes you nervous. Earlier today I heard HORROR stories of a guy that loaded the Smarty in his 06 and the batteries went dead(from the recall thing) and it completely wiped out everything....Long story short he gets to have Dodge re-program his truck $$$$

Man I'll be able to sleep good tonight!

I haven't tried taking the bully dog off yet to see if it still works. Heck I'll just leave it on!

Thanks again guys!

After this deal I completely agree with that statement. It looks like it was put out on the market before ALL of the BETA testing was done. I can't tell you how many guys have told me they have got little downloads to fix this and fix that.

Im serious, I was to the point of getting sick I was so worried.

Another thing that I noticed with my truck while running the Smarty. On a WOT run I could let off of the accelerator and the truck would hesistate for probably 5 seconds before it would start to decel. Even my girlfriend (who doesnt pay attention) noticed it.

With any of my other combination of chips when your WOT at 100+mph, as soon as you let off of the throttle its slowing down FAST.

Did you ever try running Smarty with the TST bypassed?Ive found the only way they play well together on my truck is if I run TST (no timing).
Smarty on 1 (low smoke plenty of throttle responce)
EZon2
TST on 7/2(standard program)

Yeah I know 973604x4 had the same problem, then I bought his programmer and it wont do it on mine. That is one of the main problems he has with the Smarty, omong other things...
