Tone Ring Update - Fuel Mileage Report
I am curious to know if the other ISB engines not supplied to DC run retarded timing. (ie school buses, motor homes gen sets etc)
If these engines are running timing where the modified trucks are than that should tell us that Cummins is fine with the mod.

"Global Warming - One member of the NOx, nitrous oxide, is a greenhouse gas. It accumulates in the atmosphere with other greenhouse gasses causing a gradual rise in the earth's temperature. This will lead to increased risks to human health, a rise in the sea level, and other adverse changes to plant and animal habitat."

Sorry for all the questions, but my wife unit (sorry in advance if that offends wives) told me that something has to give, so I did more research. I think I'll hold on doing the mod until I get more info. I saw "The Day After Tomorrow" and it didn't look fun, and with all this freak weather we're having, I just don't feel like contributing to the destruction of our planet. 2+ MPG just isn't worth my soul. Then again I do own a diesel (hypocrite) and not a hyrbrid, maybe Bio or WVO will save us.

I guess we should go back to wood for our heating source. Doesn't polute like dino oil.

Another environmentalist going to send us back to the stone age!

XONID,
The Green house effect has been proven false!!!!! There is no abnormal global warming (ice core samples dating back 400,000 years have verified that the earth goes through climatic changes from time to time +or- 5 degree) I remember back in the 70's that the same scientist that are screaming about global warming now were sreaming that a new ice age was coming!!!!!!!! before you get your panties in a bunch over environmental theories, do some research and educate youself and not listen to folks who have a certain agenda (i.e $$$$$)
Remember the large hole in the ozone several years back!!!!! Well, it turns out that the scientist discovered that the ozone hole was not EXPANDING it had merely moved several degrees to one side.It has since moved back and it is actually shrinking!!!!!!!
DO THE MOD!!!!! SAVE THE MONEY/FUEL

Just got back from my trip and topped off my tank again (funny how diesel can go from $2.85 to $3.15 in THREE days).
Well, just like some suspected, this mod does not appear to do a whole lot for highway speeds with no loads. My hand calculated mileage when I topped off tonight was 22.6 mpg. For this same trip I would typically get somewhere between 21 and 22 mpg...depending on how much running around I did while in Houston. Still, there is a slight improvement and this is my all time high RECORDED fuel mileage. This was done traveling at speeds from 65 to 70 mph.
That being said, if things stay like they appear to be right now then I'll be getting 22+ mpg whether I'm driving in the city or on the highway. I can deal with that (although I suspect that my city driving will drop some due to reasons I listed in my first post on this thread).
Now...what are we going to have to do to get these oil companies to start lowering the price of diesel?? Where I filled up tonight, which is the cheapest place in town, diesel was $3.15 and regular unleaded was $2.56. That is RIDICULOUS.

No, the tires and frame are made by using dino oil and also the bearings have to be greased!
How about a couple of horses.
Gee Whiz
I thought you guys would've got my hypocracy and sarcasm. Did you watch the movie? that's some scary stuff. Forget the stone age, that was a new ice age.
According to the Great Internet, NOx is bad for alot of other things other than the enviroment, but we all know how much truth is out there. OK, which smiley is the sarcasm tag?
But seriously, if I had found my 1/2" drive 15mm socket or had stop that darn wheel from spinning with the tools I had. I would have done the mod yesterday afternoon. Then the wife unit wouldn't have been able question my motives.
Still curious about the emissions though. It may be within limits, so no big deal. More MPG means you actually use less fuel, so maybe it's a balance. And less profit for them greedy oil companies.
Hoss is right, something gotta be done with these diesel prices. The Supply and Demand economics stink, if that's what it really is. I wonder if any group is actually lobbying for diesel prices on the hill. The big haulers should be at least.
Anyways - Thanks all for the info, good or bad. It's all a learning experience. And thanks for helping out Dodgedude.
Cheers.

Horses still have emission issues... I do too, but not as bad, especially with the fire suit on.
