Tone Ring Update - Fuel Mileage Report
Last Thursday I did the tone ring mod to my truck. Just prior to doing so, I topped off my tank and recorded a hand calculated 19.6 mpg.
My driving is always unloaded and empty and mostly what I consider to be city driving.
Today on the way home I topped the tank off again. After doing the tone ring mod my hand calculated mileage is 22.3 mpg....a 2.7 mpg increase since the mod.
Now, before everyone gets all excited and does this mod, let me state a few things.
1) My tank was over half full when I topped it off today (335 miles since this time last week). Although it IS hand calculated, this number might not be entirely accurate because it was only measured over 335 miles. I wanted to top it off though because I'm going out of town tomorrow and I want to see what mileage I get on an all highway trip.
2) 90 miles of this driving was all highway with the cruise set on 60 mph. This is not typical of my everyday driving so it probably skewed my results up a bit.
3) My typical driving consists MOSTLY of me driving back and forth to work. This is a 13 mile trip that is usually stop and go traffic....with occasional 1-5 mile runs of 60 mph or so.
That being said, this is still the best fuel mileage my truck has ever had (my previous high was 21.8 mpg unloaded and all highway).
Overall, I'm pleased with what appears to be a significant increase in fuel mileage. I will top my truck off again when I return home from my trip and report back on what my highway mileage is. I'll also continue to monitor my fuel mileage for a while just to verify that the numbers I got today are accurate.
Superduty...I believe you're the one that thought this thing up...GREAT JOB!!!

I did the tone mod the same day as Hoss with a half full (empty) tank. I have been watching the overhead ( I know its off) increase slightly, but today I filled up, and I definately noticed an increase in total average mpg since the tone ring mod. I will find out what the total increase will be when I fill up again the next time. Over all very please for the price and ease of the mod.

Doesn't that make sense??? Decrease the Nox but burn more fuel.
The PPM of Nox went down with the retarded timing, but there are more million parts being sent out the pipe due to the higher fuel consumption, so really the "environmental" improvement is NIL...
I hate EPA math/politics.. cuz it doesn't really help our environment, just makes the bellies of the Oil companies bigger..
