Top Speed

I wonder if the mod decreases top speed? Not that anyone would break the law to find out. But It sound's like it may increase 1/4 mile time though. Any stats on this?

By doing this mod, what do the pros out there think the long term effects are gonna be? Will the big C still be able to last a million miles, like it could befor the mod? There has to be something that is not good about this mod or Cummins would have done this in the first place...right?

I guess someone has to ask it....

What does DC think of this mod?
If they find it will it void the DC warranty and will if void the Cummins warranty???

The reason for the retarded timing is for emissions only. It reduces the NOx output. The drawback from retarded timing, a decrease in fuel economy, low rpm torque and creates higher EGTs. That's why the 3rd gen Cummins feels 'soft' until it hits about 2k rpms. Adding timing increases the chamber pressure by injected the fuel earlier, so it has more time to burn in the chamber, and that's where the fuel economy and power comes from. And also lowers the EGTs since less fuel is burning past the exhaust valve.

Don't know. I didn't ask and I don't plan to. However, unless they have a reason to take the tone ring off then they'll never even know.

That being said, I basically accepted the fact that my warranty was probably voided when I put the Edge EZ on my truck. So, I'm not too concerned about what this mod will do for my warranty.

If the Juice advances the timing then I wouldn't try it. If it is only fuel pressure and boost fooling like the EZ then all you can do is try it and find out.

That's a GREAT explanation of what this modification does and why it works.

I did it, and with the RokkTech Sensor also. Here is my Post:

It may, as the cylinder temperature has been reported higher. The reason DC has not covered some injector warranties has been for not pulling enough or to much idle time, low cylinder temps. There's a chance that you may be saving more than fuel with this mod. That was the second reason, in my mind to do the mod. BTW fuel milage is up 1-2 MPG on mine.

Unless you are crazy I do not expect that you would volunter such information to DC or Cummins. If you do remember this. I AM MY OWN WARRANTY STATION. Say these words to yourself each and every time you try a mod or consider a mod. If you cannot afford to take the RISK for the consequences then you cannot afford the mod no matter how cheap it is until you hit the 100K or time expires.

The Mod is not visable actually so they would have to be tearing stuff apart to nail you for it. My Sig does not say what I have or Have NOT done because there are too many people from DC looking at these posts. I do have a buddy of mine at cummins that verified that we ( I mean you guys) are basically at the timing level of the 2nd Gens. He said it will not hurt a **** thing and the reduced EGT's are good for it. The more complete burning of the fuel keeps the nozzles alot cleaner along with the combustion chambers. Although Nox is up with the timing many of the other polutants are down.

I'm not concerned about the mod and the warranty. With the tone wheel they will never know unless they removed it, and the same for the Rokktech sensor, looks stock when it's mounted. Would have to be removed to see the modification.

Think so. Superduty did mention this on the other thread (the very long one!) about the mod may solve the injector fouling issues that so many have been seeing. Even with the slop in the stock tone wheel could be why some people have injector issue while other haven't. Time will tell.
