Tire's Rubbing

Have a ? for ya guys. I installed a syjacker 2.5 inch leveling kit on my 04 2500, and installed 35 inch pro-comp mud terrains, and am experience rubbing on my lower control arms at full lock, it has rubbed the paint off the control arms. Will aftermarket wheels solve this problem? I know nothing about wheels, backspacing etc. Will an aftermarket wheel with a different backspacing fix the rubbing, but still fit my tire I got now which is a 35.12.50.R17.?

rubbing the control arms isn't all that bad, but with less backspacing you will be more likely to rub your fenders. choose your damage. you just have make a 10 point turn for a complete u-turn now, so you don't rub.

This is one of the reasons i went with H2's. The backspacing is close enough to stock that it keeps the tires and wheels tucked in the fenders so they dont rub but has enough difference that i dont touch the control arms ever.

Even w/ 37's H2's rock (but I have a 4.5 inch lift... )....

I would not think this should be happenig with stock wheels and your lift. I also would of expected the upper arms to rub also. I dont think this is the end of the workd either.

Mine looked like this with the stock suspension.



how much actual lift did you get?
Is it both sides?

Lift doesn't stop control arm rubbing because it doesn't move the arms away from the tires. You need to move the wheels outward by getting wheels with less backspacing than stock (moves the wheel out more). H2 wheels are the perfect combination of backspacing and width. With 315s on them, I think the same size as your 35X12.5X17s, there is no rubbing. And they look good. If you get wheels wider than the H2s or ones with less backspacing than the H2s you will rub the fenders. If you don't like the H2 design, get something else that is the same size in both width and backspacing. Perfect size.

its all in the backspacing I am runnin 315s= to 35s and no lift or leveler and have 0 rubbing.

I've found that my rubbing gets progressively worse as my truck ages/get miles on it. I installed H2 wheels/315's when it was new, no rubbing. I now rub more and more, assuming that my springs are sagging as they get older. I'm surprised that you are rubbing with the leveling kit. It sounds like you put the 35's on stock rims. It might be cheaper to get new front springs than new wheels.

how do yu know which wheels to buy even with a 2" leveling kit and 315 that wont rub?

not sure but couldn't you use some type of wheel spacer, like a 2". That is if you don't mind your wheels sticking out a little.

I would like to remind everyone that 315/70/17 BFG At's are not equal to a true 35 12.50 17. They are a half inch shorter and a half inch narrower. So when you put a true 35 on they may rub easier than a 315.

so yur telling me tha BFG's will NOT rub with either stock or aftermarket wheels as long it has at least a 2" leveling kit?

That is what I have been told, and I am going to this setup literally as I write this. My truck is at 4Wheel Parts this morning getting 315 BFG AT's with a leveling kit and new shocks all the way around.

I have hercules terra trac 315s which ARE the same size as many 35s and actually wider than a couple brands. They are mounted on the stock wheels with no leveling kit. I have 34K miles on my truck and they do not rub even at full lock.

I hate to bust anyones bubble...but lift does reduce tire rub some. As the cotrol arms get "steeper" from taller springs/spacers...the point that they would hit the tire moves up...towards the center of the wheel...which does not rotate as much as the outer edge of the tire when turned.
