Question Tire selection

Are the H2 tires decent to replace my stock 265 70R17's? They are listed as 315 70R17's (BFG All terrain) and there seem to be a lot of them used with only a couple hundred miles for ~$300. I understand clearance is an issue, but this size from what I understand clear pretty well (from other threads that is, am I wrong?). Correct me if I'm smokin crack here, but try to follow me: I get worse mileage on the highway with my 4.10 rear end at ~75 MPH than I do in the city. So far (not very far), I'm getting about 17 in the city and 15 on the highway. It seems to me that without changing the rear end any, my highway mileage would be better with larger tires to kinda "equal out" the 4.10 rear end, since i would be closer to the 2000 RPM mark. I don't drive the truck hard, so would my city mileage suffer from said tire swap? I'm pretty good at justifying why I need bigger/better toys, so anyone feel free to point me in the right direction.......so long as it ends with "Get the bigger tires!"

I've read of people replacing the stock tires with the H2 takeoffs.

3rd gen trucks are completely different animals than the 2nd gen, so I'm going to move this to the 3rd gen forum.

315/70/17s will fit your rig as long as you mount them on your stock wheels. There will be no clearance problems as long as you don't drive like a maniac in the mud . As far as the highway mileage you will lower your rpms slightly which will help mileage but your also turning a heavier tire at highway speed ,that will hurt mileage. I don't know the difference in mileage cause I put my 315s on as soon as I brought truck home . I'm getting about 17-18 on highway with 4.10s spinning truck around 2000rpms. I only have 3000 on odometer . Hope this justifies going bigger. Just do it.

I put them on last week...AT 70mph it's turning right at 1900rpms and getting up to 20.5 mpg. With the stock BFG Rugged Trail 26570R17's at 70mph was turning 2100-2200 rpms and getting 20.5 at 65mph before adding the BrushGuard..I lost 1 to 1.5 mpg when I added the Brushguard. Also added .5mpg by switching drivetrain over to synthetics. Yes, had the Dodge Dealer reset the speedo (CALLED PINION FACTOR). Mileage went up when I put on the bigger tires. I would add to invest in a set of fender flares and maybe mudflaps as the BFG's throw a lot of rocks...I'm gonna go to Wally World and get some Undercoating in a can and spray underside along the body to quiet the noise...

AllTork is getting bad mileage because of his big lift kit which raises the truck and increases his wind resistance...

Only problem I've had is getting them balanced, and 1 is bad...So getting another one for it replaced for free...
