Question Tire Chains

Anyone have any type or brand recommendations for tire chains? Or do I even want them? Keep in mind this is for a 4X2 in the soon so be snowy Northeast. Fortunately, I don't "have" to drive in the stuff, but I might get caught somewhere. Thanks!

I would rather put 2000lbs of sand in the back before I purchased a set of tire chains for my truck.. Insted buy a winter only set of tire s for the winter if you are that worried about it....

in my manual for my 03 it states not to use tire chains with anything over a 165 70 17 tire due to chance of damage. This due to insufficient clearance. Not sure if that helps you any, if you have the owners book read the tire section.

You might also want to check out Green Diamond Tire. They retread tires but instead of normal rubber they put hard granules into the rubber so the rubber acts like sandpaper on the road. I have heard some good things about them, and the tread patterns they have for the LT tires are good patterns (A/T is modeled off the Dueler A/T Revo, the M/T is modeled after the Geolander M/T I believe). They are about the same price as the same sized tire in a standard rubber. Too bad the biggest size they have is 265/70R17, and I'm not sure of the weight rating (it is listed as a "P" tire?)

Either way, I'd avoid chains if I could. A ton of sand and gravel in the back would do wonders.

Try this web site for tire chains. There are in Pa so shipping may be reasonable. I ran chains on all 4 wheels hunting last year, with 285-70-17's BFG's. No clearance problems at all.
Walmart also had chains to fit 265-285-70-17's..

I have been doing some online research on the subject and will probably go with the SCC Z-Chain from www.vulcantire.com unless someone here tells me the error of my ways.

Those look good - I wonder if they'd fit with my 315's. There are a lot of times when the Washington State Patrol won't let us over the mountains without chains . I find it a bit silly - but then again - I've seen the locals drive in the snow and I really feel it should be outlawed .
