Timing/injector Rattle

too much timing can be bad. It causes the combustion to happen before it's suppose to which puts a lot of strain on the whole bottom end. I don't know that it's bad for the injectors themselves though.
The timing is control by the ECM and you can't change it other than using a performance box so, if you have a lot of rattle and you aren't using a box... you could check and see if there a flash available for your truck. They have been know to fit rattle and knocking problems.

With the Smarty I get some rattle depending on what level or softwware I'm using. Just want to know if I will do any damage. The truck seems to like the timing for power but if it's bad for the motor or injectors I'll try a another level or software

added timing is what help keep the EGT's down. That's why many are experiencing more rattle than usual with the newest software. The timing has been really increase which is why the EGT's barely get over 1200F.
I no expert by any means but, for everyday driving... you wouldn't want a lot of timing or pressure. If the smarty is making it that bad... yes, you should run a different level.
I had the same problem with rattle on the new software to the extreme but, once I changed to a non timing level, it was 100% better and i still had the power.

If you think a 3rd gen with a little rattle is bad try listening to a 1st gen or a twelve valve 2nd gen. Way more. No, it's not bad. Diesels are famous for that noise and they've always done it (until the electronic injection and more strict emission rules came along).
I'm glad mine does it because I get the sense that the timing is closer to where it should be.
