For those who've replaced their stock stereo

I am close to pulling the trigger on an AVIC-N1 (Pioneer). I am concerned about how it will look/fit in the Dodge dash. The stock radio and the faux brushed aluminum dash trim have fairly large radius corners while the Pio seems to have a shorter radius. Has anyone dealt with a fit issue with this or any other aftermarket stereo?

Thanks,
Neil

You'll be fine. All sorts of aftermarket bases out there to help fill correctly. Here is my alpine unit installed:

kind of off topic ,but
to anyone that has replaced their factory radios with aftermarket and have lost control of the stearing wheel controls
their is a thing called a perifeal that connects in between the factory wiring harness and the new radio
it wont just give you back your controls itll also make use of the factory amping thats in the infinity systems not sure if it gets added power from the amp or if it totaly cancels it out so it dont drain power from the new head unit.
Im in the process now of getting mine I just found out about it threw a friend
does any one have any more info on this thing?
Ill check back when I get mine he said $50 - $75 we'll see.

Thanks. That doesn't look bad. I don't know the dimensions of the AVIC-N1. I assume it will fit within some standard form factor - hopefully smaller than the factory deck.

Not off topic at all. That's great news. This is one of the reasons (besides the $1500, that is ) that I've held off this long. I originally intended to order mine with the RB4 in it, but after reading some negative things about it, I decided to downgrade the Laramie 6cd changer to the CD/Cass. unit and use the money toward an aftermarket NAV/CD combo. The AVIC-N1 seems to be in a class by itself.

Yes the AVIC will fit. I have one installed. It is a great unit, the only draw back is the lights are blue and clash some with the instrument panels green lights.
I do not have the vehicle dynamics hooked up yet as I am still trying to find out where the Dodge speed sensor is. Anyone know?

Any chance of you posting some pics? I'd sure like to get a look at one installed.

Were you able to interface the steering wheel controls? If not, it looks like dieseminded has a lead on that.

Thanks,
Neil

I'm not sure if this is what you are aking about or not, but there is a speed sensor on the rear axle.

Iv'e got the speed sensor hooked up on mine (Pioneer 910). It's at the ECM on the side of the engine. I'll look tonight when I get home and get the wire color for you.

THe AVIC is a sweet unit. Not too bad of a price on eBay. Is the speed sensor read off the speedo? So, if you have larger tires it'll be off as well as the speedo?
I wouldn't mind the rear camera too.

The speed pulse wire is at pin number 11 on the 50 pin connector( ECM connector closest to the fire wall ). It is a white wire with a orange stripe.
For those that are thinking about the AVIC-N1, you might want to also look at the 910 system. It comes with the steering wheel remote standard. Plus, with the 910 system you can play CD's while you have the GPS up. About the only thing different between the two is the vehicle dynamics page ( how often are you going to use that? )

Just a note on retaining use of steering wheel controls with aftermarket stereo installation. I used a PAC SWI-X interface for the installation of my JVC stereo MP3 player. I have some pics in my gallery of remote sender unit.Mark

Sry I could not reply sooner, just been working like a sway back plow mule.
NJMurphy, I lost my Digatal cam at Tallagada this past fall, but the install looks good.
Stick, Thanks a bunch for the info. I will have some time off Labor Day weekend and will take your info to connect the speed sensor wire.
Thanks all for the replys. This board is great.
