I have the Jacobs Brake on my 04.5 and want to add a exhaust temp gauge. The manifold does not look like a good place to drill. I notice that the brake has a plug in it. Has anyone put the probe it that hole?

 

I have an 03ho and it did not have a plug in the Jake brake. but I drilled a hole in the Jake brake and threaded it to 1/8 NPT and installed the thermocouple for my Pyrometer. This is where it is installed on most class 8 trucks. You will find that most of the people on this site prefer installing it pre turbo. One thing you will have to check is to make sure that there is no interference between the butterfly on the ex brake and the thermocouple.
You will also have to remember that 900F is ok but 1000F is HOT where as the pre turbo guys will go to 1200F. I have seen my exhaust temp go to 750F going down a long hill with the Jake on.

What area did you find thick enough material on the Jake to get good threads? I'm currently as close as I could get to the elbow in the downpipe but I would like to move my probe to the elbow if possible.

 

The pyro probe was only added to the 600 jake housing , I will look up that info about the pyro probe.

The brake on my work truck has the same port, that's where I put the pyro probe. It's worked fine for a year so far. The port is there to verify proper backpressure (at least that's what PacBrake says).
