I ran diablo sport for the last 3 months on the econ mode. Truck ran great. Never abused the truck to hard, but constantly towed heavy w/ it. Two weeks ago, i got the idea of putting it on the extreme rkl version. Killed the tranny in a matter of 2 hours. Tc started slippin really bad. In that two hours I did beat the truck, constant wot from street light to street light. It was fun.. As we speek the dealer is doing a full rebuild under warranty. I will be taking the truck to Dusty (Great guy to talk to!) at HTS is three weeks. Im having him put in his tc, vb and a billet input. After that I plan on leaving the module in tow mode.

You can still abuse your stock tranny w/ about 60-70 added HP. If you go any higher, you will have to take it easy. I tore up one stock tranny w/ 375-400hp in 60000miles. I tore up another stock tranny w/ upgraded VB/TC w/ less than 500hp in less than 40000miles. From now on when I buy a truck, the first thing I will do is have a COMPLETE tranny rebuilt w/ the good stuff, before any other mods are done. I'm learning from my mistakes, maybe you can too.

IMO, if you can't afford to put a good tranny in a $35-$40000.00 truck, then you can't afford to mod a $35-$40000.00 truck!

You better go w/ improved steels and clutches while he's in there.

I've had a Smarty in my '05 for the last 8 months or so. It's set at 90 HP. I've only had it for about 7000 miles, cause I live real close to work. I bought the truck with about 17,000 miles, and it has like 24,000 now. I guess I might be considered fairly hard on the transmission, but it seems to have held up OK. I'll step on it occasionally after I get rolling up to maybe 40-50 MPH, and on the freeway I will step on it from 60 to 90 MPH kinda often. I'm buying a Goerand TC, Suncoast laminated flex plate, Goerand billet input shaft, 2nd band strut w/ anchor and probably a valve body, and I'm going to have to wait a month and 1/2 to have it put in. It's completely stock except for the Smarty (and Quadzilla Commander for gauges). I've seen a lot of threads here about transmissions that didn't last long with 100+ hp gains. I'm looking forward to turning the Smarty up soon, and glad I finally got the upgrades. I think it's good advice to get automatic trans mods quickly and before too many engine mods, you'll have to do it sooner or later, and it's lots more if you have to do a total rebuild and especially if you broke parts.
