Stack Sound Insulation

I woke up this morning and there was 3 inches of fresh snow on the ground. I fired up the truck and took off to work. The 3 inches of snow on the roof made the truck considerably quieter. I mean to the extent it was quieter than my 4" straight exhaust out the back. Has anyone pulled down their headliner and put Dynamat in? I wonder if it would be as effective as the 3" of snow on the roof.

I love the way my 7" stacks sound, and I would like to continue to make the sweet sound my neighbors have come to love at 12:30am when I come home from work! So a muffler is out of the question.... for now.

I'm considering something like this because a bunch of things in the truck rattle.

Dynamat is a lot of work, but I think its the best sound deadener. I havent done the roof, but I did do the back wall of the cab, and I think it helped out a lot.

just my opinion

I did the entire cab floor and back wall and it made a huge difference. I'm sure the headliner would be a great help with stacks. I know mine was unbearable when I had my stacks on.

there are some manufacturers that have stacks with built in mufflers, also, the sound insulation on the roof would help out a lot when it rains

sometimes dynamat material will sag in high heat areas. On the roofs of vehicles, i have always used the spray in deadener and never had a problem. I had a car audio shop installer tell me 1 time that he uses the spray on deadener and then sprays an undercarriage (can buy at home depot or auto zone) rubberized spray to top it off. I did a 99 ranger that way and it came out great.

oh on another note:::: if you use the rubberized undercoating to top off your install- YOUR TRUCK WILL STINK TO HIGH HEAVEN BUT WILL DISAPPEAR IN A COUPLE DAYS! LOL!! Trust me, it will go away

This spray insulation, is it like touch n foam? I guess I need to Google it and find out. My truck is not horribly loud with the 7's inside, but when the old lady starts to nag about something while driving, I can drown her out. I dont think she picked up on it yet.

It is also a very good excuse to get off the cell phone while driving. Everyone hates to cal me now because they cant hear me very well.

i have dynomat on the roof, rear wall, firewall, floor and inner and outer skins of the doors of my megacab, it is quite amazingly quiet almost as quiet as my wife's Mercedes.

there are various forms of the dynomat. I suggest looking into accumat, they have different types of mat for different applications. ie variable thicknesses with different layers for each area of the truck to be deadened.

hope this helps. i have a thread with some photos titles "car audio..."
