South Bend Clutch Squeal

Here lately Ive been noticing that intermittently when engaging the clutch i will get a squealing sound. It seems like it only happens when the clutch is relatively engaged more abruptly than normal. It also happens slightly when going from 2nd to 3rd also. Don't get me wrong though the clutch has been flawless besides this squeal. Maybe this is normal? Any ideas?

If its a Centered iron clutch it will do that perfectly normal. My haisley will do it from time to time as well.

Sintered Iron will definatley squeal when engaging. Seems to quiet down after a sled pull for the ride home then the same the next day. I am in the process of switching to a sintered and am willing to put up with the squeal for the added durability.

I have exactly the same symptoms with my newly installed sbc 3250...

Mine makes that sound also.

FYI I just put on a fluid dampener. Seriously I couldn't believe the difference it made. clutch is a lot quieter and when you lug the engine the growl is almost completely gone.

Hey I have a 06 with a 6 speed trans and my truck only has 45,000 miles on it as to this day. I put my Southbend FE clutch in at 4,000 miles so the FE only has 41,000 miles on it and I just noticed it started to squeal just as you said. It's right when barely engaging the clutch an especially going from 2nd to 3rd. What should I do? This is really frustrating me!

Mines pretty bad. It's a SBC DD 3250. Anytime I'm at a light or I have to take off at an incline, the sqeal goes on as long as I'm slipping it. Sometimes 3 or 4 seconds. Really embarrassing when the pedestrians are staring at you wondering if its gonna blow up before I hit the cross walk.
Larry in the DTR store (who I bought it from) told me to put it in first and let the clutch out just till it grabs then blip the throttle a couple times. Then do the same in reverse. This does work, but makes horrid squeals till it clears up . I live in an area where I have no neighbors, or else this would wake the dead. It's to the point now that I need to do it twice a day, or it just squeals everywhere I go.
I went to So Cal for Xmas this year, I couldnt do Larry's trick in the morning due to my parents neighbors, so it squealed every time I took off or shifted............. all day long.
