Some basic 'chip' advice

I'm interested in upping my mileage...and have heard all the talk about chips. I don't mind spending a little to do this and I have a good car guy that I trust to work on the truck....however, I'm wondering....
1. Will this void my warranty?
2. What brand do you recommend?
3. What kind of mileage increase is reasonable?
4. Any advice from previous mistakes would be greatly appreciated!

YEP!
Depends on what you really want to do and who you talk to.
Depends on who you talk to and how you drive.
Don't believe all the hipe about ALL of the boxes. If you can a drive of someone elses truck with one installed do it. Make sure you do exactly as the MFGr tells you to do so they might stand with you at the dealer when warranty issues come up. Other wise they will only stand behind you and say DID you READ the FINE print, too bad so sad

I don't believe getting a chip is a worthwile way to better economy, especially if you want to preserve the DC warantee. The best way to get better mileage is better driving habits, slower cruising speeds and slow acceleration. If you want a chip that can potentially improve mileage, I think a timming box is the way to go.

injectors are pretty reasonable in price, and DonM says his injectors substantialy increase fuel mialege, (with the right driving). Also Piers can regrind your camshaft and supposedly get better mialege. It seems these upgrades would be harder to catch when you go in for warranty.

you might want to try approaching your dealer about how they feel about chips/boxes. Some hate them, some dont care, some others even sell/install them.

When I bought my truck, the dealer was actually pushing me to get the banks six gun installed .

Do some research and tryn drive some trucks w/ different boxes before you buy.

If you are just interested in mileage, stay stock. From my experience 1 mpg is all you could gain with a box. If money is no big deal, try for yourself.

I think the increase in mpg is well NOT !! due to the extra power and the fun the truck is to drive increase in milage is minimal.
I am using Bd downloader and it a blast
As for warranty set ECM back to stock before you take it to the dealer.

Sounds simple enough. I had a Hypertech PPIII on my Ford which worked similarly. How can you be sure that other "flags" aren't set in the memory to clue the dealers in that you had the BD installed?

Plus, you always run the risk that:

1) Your downloader (with your original programming inside it) gets lost or damaged

2) You break down in such a way that you can't de-program

What then?
