Just some basic questions

I just purchased a 2006 3500 Megacab and love it. I was just wondering what the difference is between the other 03-07 2500/3500 with the Heavy Duty under the number? What does it mean.

Also there is some rotella smell coming into the cab. It is a fresh oil change with 800 miles on whatever oil the Dodge dealer put in. I have to check the seal along the hood but the rubber that connects to the draft tube (I think that is what it is, runs from the valve cover to behind the engine) is cracked and the tube fits loose in there now. Is the draft tube easy the change out? Does it just hang out behind the motor?

Also any tips and trick for the rookie?

Thanks
Steve

Your going to have the oil smell no matter what, at least until you get a few miles on the oil. 2500 = 3/4 ton 3500 = 1 ton.

I understand the 2500 and 3500 being 3/4 and 1ton. Just mine has 3500 and that is it for the badge. Others have 3500 and say "Heavy Duty" in red just underneath the numbers.

Ram "Heavy Duty" is just what Dodge calls the 2500/3500 truck with our frames.

The Ram 1500 trucks are not "Heavy Duty" per se.

We share the truck body but they have totally different (and much weaker) frames than ours.

Our Axles, Springs, Brakes etc. are built much beefier for heavy hauling and towing.

Im sorry I misunderstood your question when I answered above. I thought they all said "Heavy Duty"....if they were a 2500/3500. Are you sure yours wasn't just removed before you bought it?

Regarding the oil smell... you'll always get a little smell with new oil but should go away after 1000 or so miles. However, my experience is the Chevron dyno and Amsoil syn have the "least" amount of crank case vent oders or smell.

My heavy duty logo is on the tailgate. The 07 and newer has the logo on the side under 2500/3500.
