One last question Bob,,, will the smarty help out my midrange power,, specifically in the 1900 to 2400 rpm range? This is a bit of a problem for me

smarty helps all rpm ranges. i really noticed the difference down low. my quad has always been good in the mid and higher rpms, but it cant touch what the smarty does. I am very impressed and pleased with how well it performs, installs, and operates. I have not had any problems. Other than the weak clutch. The egts are much lower with the smarty compared with the quad, dont know why, definately not complaining. I'd say pick one up morkable.

and to think i spent $1700 on a turbo to lower egts! should've got a smarty. Bob, maybe you can use that as an advertising plus, egts lower than stock. made a world of difference.

I think it is more like MORE TIMING.

We only do about 6degrees so if he is doing 14-18 degrees then there is your answer.

If it does that much timing you should be careful when it is cold. Timing is an awesome thing to use but it also sky rockets cylinder pressures. When the truck is cold you need to take it easy on the headgaskets.

Also, I very seriously doubt the Smarty is going to run cooler EGT's at WOT than stock. With your turbo and crusing it is very possible but, I can guarantee you that anything that adds 100-150hp is not going to run cooler than stock at WOT.

quad do you add timing to the stock curve or do add to the stock cummins timing?

I spoke to a user last night that back up that smarty is lowering stock egts by at least 100-200 degrees.

this guy has no other boxes in use.

If you would like to talk to him I will hook you up.

I'm also interested in the answer to this question, as to whether the smarty and hot juice will be a good stack. I think I read on the TDR that it might not be because the smarty reprograms the ECM and this throws off the juice because it works off the stock ECM?

I would believe that it lowers temps. My truck runs cooler with Crazy Larry/ Tst than it does with the tst alone. Kinda crazy...

I just borrowed a Smarty CR myself and I am currently trying it out. It has the lastest update in the software. So far I have only run the 90hp setting with additional timing (SW 5) and it seems to definately give my truck some kick. When I accelerate aggressively it is definately putting out some smoke, but not excessively. Mine seems to be running a little cooler on EGTs. Maybe 50-100 degrees. But I haven't really pushed it hard yet.

I have no other mods or boxes other than whats in my sig. Still on the stock lift pump and trans and turbo. AFE stage 2 air and Magnaflow 4'' straight thru exhaust.

I can report back in a few days with more of my own "testing".

I think you guys are mistaking what I am saying.

It is easy to run cooler egt's when cruising. Even our simple XZT will do that.

What I am talking about is WOT.

So what you are telling me is that you can make 130hp and run less than 1300 degrees
(stock) at WOT in a 1/4 mile sprint with the Smarty on the max level?

I don't think so.

I think when you say that the Smarty lowers EGT's you should clarify that. Otherwise you will be asked to pay for some melted pistons down the road.
