Yep, that is what I said too. Currently, I have my Smarty on Level 7. Trans is still stock.

You may be suprised with the tranny when you get it built. After considering what my tranny had been through with the Smarty on all the upper levels, stacked with the TST, coupled with about 30 passes on the track and my size 14 lead foot, it was in considerably better shape than we thought it would be. I was expecting to see some major carnage, but that wasn't the case.

Fluid was a little dark, but the bottom of the pan was clean.

You'll really like that Smarty with a built tranny though. Really wakes it up on the highway.

Mine has no problem on the highway. It wakes up really nice when the TQ converter locks up. I just don't like the way the tranny feels around town or getting up to 50ish mph.

I know the 48re is tough, so it makes me think just a DTT tq converter and valve body upgrade may be all I need. Im torn between doing it "right" vs. saving myself several thousand dollars.

Don't get me wrong here, you need to do it right. There were some components that needed replacing, but I was expecting a completely thrashed tranny after what I had been doing to it.

With a good TCC and valve body, you snap either an input or output shaft so you want to go billet on those parts. You might also consider a stronger flexpate too. I know a guy that ripped his flexpate in two with a built tranny and a Smarty stack.
