Question Smarty ? for Marco, Bob, or users...

Just ordered the smarty for 06's. I won't really have time to test all the setting and would like a suggestion or two. (Have search but haven't really found what I'm looking for)

I'm going on a 2000 mile round trip over mostly interstate. Is half power setting ok to run on a stock truck? If so would it yield the best mileage? Should I down load an update for the best mileage?

I understand I'm driving a house down the road, but I'd like my house to get the best mileage possible.

I'm new to diesel and programmers, don’t be too rough on me.

Well I would go with setting number 1. I see you have 4.10's so your rpm's will be like my 05 with a G56. I don't think you could drive that far at half power it would kill me to try that.

Also I am sure the 06 will have all the updates and I don't think the 03-05 will work for you.

Well, Not saying I WANT to drive that far at half power. I'm not paying for the diesel on this trip, but I would like to minimize the expense for those who are paying (I'm moving someone from Astoria, NY to Auburn, AL).

Many have asked about #s but it doesn't look like anyone has actually completed a tank with half power. I might have to be the guinea pig. Although my girlfriend would replace guinea with chauvinist.

I would use setting#1 on the mild TM program, you will have to remove and replace your stock program, I think. I gained about 1.5 mpg on my 03. GO to their website to see what you have. This setting still adds lots of power for lots of fun if you want it IMO.

I guess I should add to the questions:

What is the half power for?

I'll be doing a post on my mileage for levels 1,3 and 7 in a few days once I empty this tank. 7 was close to stock, a tiny bit better, 1 was a fairly large increase, but I think 3 is on the way to having both of them beat. I'll add details once I get all the info.

Cheers, Dave

Auburn huh? I'm in Montgomery. As for the 1/2 power setting, I think that's more to keep other people from beating on the truck-it won't necessarily get the best mileage.

1/2 power is for 600-700 hp daily drivers. cuts them down to 350 range.

The 1/2 is also for smoke control on high hp rigs (epa)

dont tow or daily drive in 1/2 power for a stock truck

30 60 90 hp with timing should yield better mpg vs, stock

lower egt's too

V8440, Is there a diesel chapter down this way? If not, I might try to round everyone up in the area and get one started.

The real issue

The real issue, IMO is your stock tranny. You really need to make upgrading it a priority b-4 your power upgrades make it for you and at a time and place of the Gremlins choice instead of yours. The voice of experience.

I'm definitly upgrading the tranny before I do any crazy mods. I'm not planning on putting the smarty much higher than 2.

Twins are not in the near future, I have to build my cj8 first.
