Smarty and EGT

And what power level am I going to run into unsafe EGT's using a Smarty with original programming on a completely stock truck? I know the importance of guages as you can see by my signature on my old truck. I will install guages on my current truck, but in the mean time, I'd just like to know what power level I can safely drive around at until I install guages. I will be daily driving, including the odd bit of wide open accelaration.

STOCK. any fuel adding device(programmer or module) will easily get egt's too high for comfort. with no way of monitoring them, you are just asking for a meltdown. there is also no simple way to quantify a setting for you. it greatly depends on driving style, elevation, tire size, truck usage, gear you are driving in, terrain, etc
get gauges, until then, leave it stock

you can feasably run 9 if you dont stay in it for to lone. on a 0-60/70 you could be around 1300ish or higher depending on the circumstances.

I don't think I would risk running a very high level especially with stock exhaust. Get rid of the cat/muffler and you would have some room to play. With all that stuff on there the EGTs are going to get up there pretty quick!

All I really wanted to know was if I could run level 2 or 3 for better response.

Sure, but any WOT runs (staying on it at high speeds) will run you into the 1400 + range.

Get the gauges on, then you'll know.

From what I remember since the last time I had mine of off 9, I can still run the pyro up VERY quickly if I stay in it while in 6th gear.

when you get your gauges, don't install the smarty and you will be amazed by how high the EGT's get without any power adders. I run level 3 99% of the time and if I want, i can get 1500*. Just like anything else, be mindful and you will be ok, let your right foot do the talking and you can do damage.

I have seen high EGT's towing with completely stock engine. My tight converter makes the EGT's get higher in the low gears but once I am in lockup it makes no difference when towing. The harder the load the higher the EGT.
