Trying to download a new version and it is not working. I am pretty slow on a computer, so if anyone can walk me through it step by step for a computer illiterate person that would be great. My wife has been helping and when it says "new hardware found" mads site says not to let the computer find driver but to tell the computer the folder name where you have unzipped the driver but it won't allow us to do that. I think we might not have unzipped the software, if that is the case how do you unzip the files? We have downloaded the Smarty USB file, CMD 2.00.00 zip for windows xp, and the new program. Please help.

 

you need to get the 7zip software. it is the new zipping program marco is using. its free. do a google.

 

I downloaded the 7zip software and unzipped the file I wanted to download and it still won't work. the computer shows the program to download but the ok button won't allow you to start the download. Then I tried it a little later and now when I plug the smarty into my usb cable the computer beeps but doesn't say "new hardware found" is my computer a piece of crap?

 

Did you use the Hardware Wizard to load the correct USB driver that's in the CDM 2.xx.xx zip file?

the new hardware wizard is only used to install the driver. Once the driver is installed you are good to go.

Make sure the file that you are trying yo load end in .smt

 

Would've been nice to know this before I spent a couple hours trying to mess up both my laptop and my smarty!

(wasnt trying to beat on you Bob, but I read through Mads site, and I didnt see anything about needing any specific software.)

On another note, that knock I described at idle is likely due to a bad injector or two. I returned the truck to stock last night, and this morning when I went to take the daughter to school (yes, normally the wifes duty!) it had a rough idle and white smoke. The smoke went away, but the idle was still rough until it warmed up to about 170. I just spoke with the local dealer, and they'll need to keep it at least overnight. I also asked him about upgrading the injectors, and he didnt know anything, but said it may be possible. Now its off to Randy's to pickup an exhaust....

The file ends in .smt but when we plug the smarty in it won't download. Either something is wrong with our computer, or I am not very good at it.
