Smarty Download Problem

Since I can't get a timely response from the Smarty folks, I'll throw this out to you guys.

I got it last Thursday and have had no problems changing the programs in the truck. However, I am having problems upgrading the downloads from the Mad site.

I downloaded the updates to my PC and unzipped them. I followed their directions and installed the FTDIFT8U2XX driver. It shows up in the File Manager and will come and go when I plug in and unplug the Smarty. The PC "dings" when I plug the Smarty in, but it does not show up in "My Computer" as a drive and will not put the Smarty icon on the desktop. When I try to load an update, I get an error box saying "the file could not be read". I have even tried a CD that I used to upgrade a friends Smarty a few months ago using the same PC.

Any ideas?

Charlie,
You mentioned you downloaded the drivers and the updates, but have you downloaded the actual executable file to update the Smarty? You run that and then point it to the .smt file you want.

EDIT: http://madselectronics.com/downloadfiles/SmartyUSB.exe

I will try to call you tonight if you don't have it fixed.

I downloaded and unzipped all the downloads. the FTxxxxx is the only one that would execute. I have just deleted all of the from my HD and will try again. Since I'm on the cell, I'll only download the ones I need for now.

Crobtex, there was a looong thread about the Smarty just a week or two ago which included allot of info about downloading new software into the Smarty. It seems there may be a trick or two especially if you downloaded updates for another programmer on the same computer.

Thanks,
I thought I had read them all, but I'll search again.

Try this one. I think the discussion about drivers and zip files starts around page three or four. Rick https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=118908

Thanks for the info, but I didn't find a fix for my problem. I really don't know if it's a problem with the software or my PC.

This is the content of my latest PM to Bob. I talked to him on the phone, but I don't think either of us understood what the other was saying.

Bob,
I am at home now on a desktop PC and have the same problem updating the Smarty.

The FT232_D2XX IS installed. The Smarty is still not being recognized as an additional drive and no icon shows up on the desktop. When I try to send the USB driver, I still get the same error msg about the "Smarty file not found". When I look at the Properties of one of the update files, such as Smte4_07, it opens it as a Notepad file. Shouldn't this be an executable file?

Is there some place I can get "step-by-step" instructions on how to get this done?

Regards,

If anyone can add some light to this, please step foreward.

No doubt that I am very satisfied with the performance of my truck after adding the Smarty. However, I am extremely put out with their lack of customer support with problems. Two emails to Customer support (no replies), one PM to Marko (no reply), two PM's to Bob (one reply) and one phone conversation with Bob that was not worth the cell minutes used for him to tell me to do the same things I had already done). I've fooled around with computers for 10 yrs +, and can usually figure out how to install drivers and hardware, but not this one.

I'm sure it's something simple, and it's probably me, but I'd sure like to get it resolved. I HATE IT WHEN THINGS DON"T WORK RIGHT.
