I keep mine on lvl 5, TQ 1, TM 2, RP either 1 or 0. Can't remember now. I don't have any popping but it's from the advanced timing, just lower your timing a little and it should go away. I really like lvl 5 because my clutch holds it no problem and when loaded heavy (trailer weight 23,000 lbs plus), max EGT is 1200 degrees.

I will also add that some people set it to highest level and use the POD function in case they ever want more power on the fly. If you use the default parameters, you can use the even numbers to use the stock timing. That will definitely solve your popping issue.

I'm thinking of trying a smarty revo or pod. It looks like both of them have the same programs. How much hp and tq will they make? How touchy is the throttle response on tq 3 & 4? Craig

I don't like anything above 1 on TQ for me because it makes the truck jumpy when taking off with a stick. No good when you're hooked to a trailer. I've tried different TQ settings and 1 is the one I like the best easing around in the lower gears. I believe the REVO and the POD are one in the same now. Max HP gain is 210 HP.

I was afraid of that! My Predator was like that, too. I have a TST PMCR right now and it's great but it has elec. bugs that come and go and they are getting aggrevating. Tq and hp are seperate settings with the PMCR. I stay low on tq to keep the exh. clean and run the hp high. It has a little flat spot but then it rips hard! Can you choose tq and hp seperately? Is the power band smooth if you use 1 tq and the max for hp? Thanks, Craig

I can't tell a difference in the TQ settings for overall HP. I believe the TQ settings just make the throttle more sensitive. My EGTs are the same no matter what the TQ settings are. The Smarty is the only programmer I have had on my truck so I can't compare it to anything else. The power seems smooth to me but I can only compare it to the stock truck. With the Smarty on level 5, it pulls hard throughout the RPM and pulls anything I hook to the truck better than a new truck (at least better my dad's 2011 anyway) with no EGT issues. For that reason, the Smarty stays on level 5.

That's what I needed to know! I've been on cumminsforum.com and UDC can be added to (I think) any smarty. It looks like the touchyness can be tuned out and it's supposed to be really easy to use. I drove my truck last night and it started fine. It comes and goes. I can still return the PMCR if I want. I don't know how long I can trust it. I had the jerkyness in the low gears and it turned out to be the apps. After it fiinally bit it and I replaced it, I figured out the truck had several apps related problems that had been creeping up and I thought the jerking was from loose u-joints. I got the apps (tps) from TST and it had dead-on instructions for cal'ing it. Smooth power band and good driveability came back, no more jerking and the e-brake hasn't missed a lick since. It was easily wirth $169! You might want to try that. Craig

Thanks for the tip. I'll keep that in mind, but I only experience the jerkiness with the TQ set to level 2 or higher. Stock truck or TQ 1, no problems at all.
