Smarty on 2003 California SO
I figured that I could run Level 7 (130 HP Gain) and be at 365 HP (only 40 HP more than the 04.5 I used to have) without screwing up my 48RE.
Is that logical thinking? Or is there something I am missing?
I searched the site for info and found some talk about "Torque Management". Does the smarty change tranny settings that could cause longevity problems?
I don't want to destroy my tranny, but I want to wake up this sissified California truck.

Are you saying that the Smarty boosts the stock program which is currently 235 HP, to 325 HP (04.5 levels) and THEN adds the rated HP gain?
Or is it: 235 HP + 60 HP = 295 HP, which is 30 HP less than my 04.5.
This will damage the 48RE? Same transmission in both trucks.
Depends on how you drive it. Most 03 Cali trucks came with the 47RE tranny though. My 03 49 state truck (250 HP) came with a 47RE and 10.5AAM. If it came with an 11.5AAM, then you should have the 48RE tranny.
Anyways, it'll be ok turned up. The TM delete might make it harder though. The 03 trucks have some heavy torque management built in.

Somewhere in your Smarty literature or online, Mads states that for SO engines, the power levels listed is for HO engines so your difference will be even more. In others words, 130 HP for HO = 435 HP. 130 HP for 250 HP SO engine =435HP or actual of 185 gain. 130 HP for CA emission 235 HP engine will be 435 HP, or actual gain of 200 HP!
I'm sure if I am mistaken that Bob Wagner will correct me, but I do believe that is the way it is! So--- to answer your question, on stock 48RE it is not recommended you go above say 365 HP or there abouts-- Stay at level 3.
FWIW-- I used to do some ill advised blasting around on level 9 for fun, but always made sure the TC was locked before getting into it.
