Mine came with the "Protection group" which among other things gave me a transfer case skid plate. At the time there was no fuel tank skid plate offered. From what i understand, they now offer a fuel tank skid plate as well. The part number was floating aroud here a while back. Try a search.

The fuel tank shield to protect that plastic fuel tank is part #52121265AA and the crossmember you'll need is part #52022046AD. I paid $117.00 and $45.35 for the pair. Other dealers in my area were higher. Shop around. You'll also need some fasteners, but they should have those in stock. One of the guys who had this installed had his dealer drill a couple of extra holes in the frame to secure it better.

The tranny skid plate is part #182207963 and I think that includes the cross-member. You need both parts. I paid $115.00 a year ago. It should come with 8 bolts for mounting. If you do this one, check the exhaust assembly. My catalytic was close enough to the cross-member that it would rub and chirp metal-to-metal until they adjusted the pipe hangers to get it up out of the way.

The cat rubbed on the skid plate of my truck also. After driving it the 150 miles home from the dealers lot listening to the squeaking rattle, the very first thing I did to my truck was take the skid plate off. Now it sits in my shed where I bash my shin's on it every time I walk past the dang thing.

I finally had time today to take my rig in to the dealer to have the fuel tank shield installed. After some messing around and head-scratching, the techs finally decided that I had asked them to order the wrong part. "Must be for a 1/2 ton." Additional checking showed that the skid plate is the same for all three trucks--1500, 2500 and 3500. Now they are hesitant to install it because it means drilling the frame--a big Chrysler NO-NO! After I noted that since it was an "after-market" product that didn't exist at date of manufacture and therefore no way to know where to design holes in the frame, they decided they could do the install after all. However, only with the spec self-tapping screws, which they did not have in stock (and which I didn't order because the info I had was that they were a common item). Live and learn. So now I go back to the dealer tomorrow morning to (hopefully) get the darn thing put on. And they won't drill any more holes than the 10 that Dodge designed for the system, so as not to void the frame warranty.

We'll see how it goes tomorrow. It stinks that the dealer is an hour away.

The shield is on, but not without one more little surprise. The screws are not self-tapping, so the tech had to tap the holes in the frame. They drill 7 holes in the frame; the other three screws are used to fasten the skid plate to the cross-member. We also cut the exhaust bracket u-bolt ends off to allow the cross-member to locate high enough so the shield was level with the tranny skid plate just in front of it. I like the install. It looks like it will do what I need, which is to keep limbs from poking the tank.

They charged me for 2 1/2 hours of labor ($180) plus the 12 screws I ordered (wanted 2 extras--just in case) at $1 each. Total damage $117+45.35+180+12=$354.35 installed.

Interesting, my truck had the holes for the xfer skid plate and the bolts were self tapping. Took me 20 minutes to bolt up. I had the dealer install the fuel tank skid plate because they had to drill one hole. near the rear tire.
