I spoke with Tony Wood today at Banks. My question to him was what were the six gun HP & torque improvements for a High Output 03/04 truck. Their webiste and literature only post results for the SO trucks. He told me that the same HP (128/290) increase applies to the HO trucks. He also said they use pressure/timing AND duration and that they have only tapped the potential so far. I also gave him this webisite if he wanted to check it out and I told him a lot of people were wondering why they post only the SO results and not the HO. Most of the trucks out there are HO anyway.
I was told by someone at banks that the HO makes less additional power than the SO. Their add for the six gun only mentions timing and preasure, NOT duration? I think he was just trying to sell one to you.
I heard the same thing - thats why I called. I wasn't looking to buy and I asked him about what they advertised (pressure/timing). He added they also do duration. If you have a name of the person at Banks you spoke with I would be more than happy to question them also. Basically - until I see a dyno sheet for a product I won't consider it and I let him know that also. They would sell a lot more boxes if they backed up his claim for the HO on paper.
Banks only list the SO (Cali) numbers because most of their testing was done on SO (Cali) engines. You must remember that their headquarters is located in California

There are two aspects of fuel tuning that are worth focusing on with the Cummins ISB common rail engine. The first is fuel pressure. [...] Injection timing is another key tuning parameter that can yield tremendous gains in power.
The Six-Gun increases fuel pressure [...] Timing is also recalibrated for optimum power output. Some competitive products only offer one or the other of the two features mentioned.
It's troublesome when either the people that make the product, sell the product, or write about the product don't fully understand the product.

Just playing the devils advocate but you can look at a lot of other box manufacturers advertising and basically what it comes down to is that it's what people want it to be. Look at the TST advertising saying that you can gain up to 150 hp and 500 ft/lbs with stock airbox, exhuast and turbo. From everything I have read from the ones running that box that statement is absolutely rediculous. I run a Banks box but I am NOT taking anyones side here. Just trying to point out that all of the box manufacturers are salesman and we all know salesman are always full of it.

I read a debate on this subject a while back and what I think it boils down to is that the manufactures like banks will use the info that shows the greatest gain to help sell their product. Makes the product more impressive to the buyer if it shows 50 more hp and 150 more ftlbs of torque rather than the 25 hp and 75 ftlbs of torque they will in reality get. Those with the SO trucks will get a good bump of power while those of us with the HO trucks will not see that much gain as we are already ahead in the power and banks(and any other company) can not get the same results on our trucks.
I have a SO Cali Cummins and my brother has a HO Texas Cummins. We both sell performance boxes. Our trucks are identical except for the type of cummins. We tested both of them out on his dyno at stock. There was quite a bit of difference in the HP and TQ. Both of us then added Magnum flow exhaust and Magnum Force AFE Proguard 7 with torque tubes and put edge ez on and ran them agin. Both were very similar on this run. The info I am getting from some techs at the dealer my brother works with is, the Cali SO is different in stock cause of the emission requirements that California puts on the Cummins for that engine. The only difference in the truck was the ECM Program and the Exhaust that came stock on it. Once I removed them, it ran simular. The HO put out a little more on the Dyno, but we really could not tell the difference in driving one from the other.
My brother now has the Six gun on his truck, and says it runs great. I am thinking of getting another box just to see if I can get the same performance without having to spend alot of cash. We both sell performance parts on the side, but we try out all the parts before we sell them to the people that work around us. Cause we don't want to push a product that does not work. Also Call backs and returns are not good for business. Especially when I sell products to friends. Most of my Buiz comes from word of mouth.
Banks is a awesome product, but price is high. I like edge for the performance and the price. But I always like getting more power if I have to pay a little more. Just don't like paying alot if I can find a product that puts out the same performance. I guess my point is, you have to put it on the dyno to get the real results of the product. Anyone can can sell you a product if they are a good sellsman. You just have to do your home work.
