Shift Enhancer, Do they help?
Shift Enhancer, Do they help?
I'm Tired of my truck doing the 1-3 shift (only under light throttle), so I finally called goerends and talked to dave, and he's sending me a shift enhancer to fix it. so how do you guys like yours?
it was kind of required with his tranny or he would void your warranty after awhile. it helps i think. on the daily setting of the enhancer it gets through the gears smooth and puts it in overdrive around 45-55 mph depending on how hard youre on the throttle. ive only used race and daily. race kinda draws your gear shift points out to get your rpms up- def helps in my opinion. as for the towing mode, i tried it once by accident and its like race- draws your rpms out and shifts alittle firmer. you will like it, i think it helps the tranny IMO
That's weird, mine only shuttle shifts under light throttle, but there's apparently not as much help for the 03-04s with throttle cable, is that right? As I understand it, there are no shift enhancers for 03-04s.
I think its all in how its programmed from DTT. Mine came with some tweaks that worked well on Tim Barbers 06 with alot of the same mods I have, so mine is spot on. This may not work as well say if someone has an 04 and a diferent DL, but who knows.

The Shift Enhansers are only for the '05+ trucks... guess you can't use them with the underhood APPS (newer trucks have TPS on accelerator pedal).
I don't know how they are "programmed", other than the line pressures are manipulated to align the shifting with the truck's engine tune.
I suspect the underfueled, overgated twins contributed to the shuttling!

The SE does not control line pressure only gov pressure. Line pressure is preset with springs on the PR valve. All the SE does is ramp gov pressure faster so it takes more line pressure to overcome it and cause the shift to happen.
The problem is little or no gov pressure at low throttle opening. This causes the the shuttle because a slight movement of the throttle will cause the trans to think it needs to downshift and then upshift again immediately as the line pressure rises with rpm.
The SE is configurable by a delaer with their tools for it. Each truck reacts a little different so you may have to find a dealer or send it back to get it tailored to your setup. There are parameters that DTT won't exceed on the control so if it can't be addressed with the SE ther eis most likely a mechanical issue that is causing the shuttle.
