I have taken just the muffler off and added a 5" tip and it sounds pretty good...Even at 70 it is barely noticeable. The only time you will know your not running a muffler is when you take off and thats it.

Oh and feel sorry for the little ricer boy in the civic that hears your turbo spooling and "thinks" he's in a race till you mash on it and fill his neon cockpit up with smoke and deafen him!

I have an 04.5 3500 SRW and I went to a local diesel mechanic shop and got a 4 foot long piece of 4 inch pipe went home that night got the saw out and cut the muffle off and also got 2 sleeve clamps and cut the 4 foot piece of pipe to fit then clamped it on. Never looked back yet. I still left the cat on and I love the way it sounds. You don't really know its there untill you want to know it is there then everybody in the intersection also knows you are there

I cut through the muffler in about 3 spots on each end and pulled the muffler right off. Took about 30 minutes from the time I pulled the truck in the garage to the test drive.

I actually just helped my buddy with this same deal on his '01 powerstroke that he bought with a Banks 4" exhaust. we just beat on the edges of the muffler, popped that off, then we took a ride up to Peterbilt and grabbed a 3 foot piece of 4" pipe out of the dumpster in back, bought a few clamps and had it all back together in about 45 mins.

i used a torch an a chain fall, remove rear clamp first, hook up comealong inas straight a line as possible heat area where clamp was at cherry red keeping a steady pull on it as you heat it, i was able to save it an reuse it,straight pipe was just too loud for long distances

like most everyone else has said. the muffler is a PITA to get off without cutting it. i tried to get it off without cutting it but finally resorted to useing a grinding wheel to get it off. i didn't plan on using it again anyway. went with the straight pipe from geno's. couldn't be happier!!!!
