Question Realistic recommendations please.

OK, I filled in the Signature line so truck info below.

I would really like some help defining the right setup for MY needs. I have done a lot of searching and there are just too many products to wade through. This truck will never see a track or tractor pull so I don't need the Big Bad Dog so to speak, just something really Usable and proven.

Here's what I'm looking for:

About 380 - 400HP to the ground and 900+ TRQ (similar to my 96 3500)
Must be able to hide from the dealer, easily removed for service work (no downloaders)
Must be tow friendly (consistent, no surging)
Proven product without R&D issue (don't want to be a tester)
Requires few to no other modifications to work properly (EGT and so on in line)

Does this item exist or am I just dreaming??

Tanks for the help guys!

Look at our "Race" module with the Commander.

The module is easily removable and will net you in the 400-415rwhp range but the torque is going to be more in the 800ft lbs range. Of course with the 6spd you may be able to see more torque than that on a dyno. Auto's typically get into the low 800 ft lbs range but they really cannot test much below 2000 rpm as they like to downshift!

The Commander will stay in the truck as it works without the module and it will still act as gauges for you even with the module removed for service.

If you beat the truck over time you will need transmission mods but, it pretty much fits the bill for what you are looking for. There are an awful lot of people running this combo and running just the Race module.

They sell them at the DTR store and there are a ton of vendors that sell them on here as well.

You can get some more info here including installation instrucions:

and

And you can also do a search on the forums.

Thanks for the reply Quad.

The commander looks pretty neat but I already have my guages installed. The race module however does get a second look, it's the one I was looking at from the start. I'd like a little more on the torque side for towing but it sounds pretty close to what I had on the 96 (375HP and 885 TQ).

Is it reasonable to mount everything, including the switch under the hood, set it and forget it style?? In a plastic bag or such?

Thanks

I was gonna recomend the race box but quad beet me to it. I had my box under the dash and it has a 4 position switch. stock, 60hp, 100hp, and 130 hp. You will not be able to tow much wieght in any settin over 60, if you plan on leavin it on 60 I would highly recomend the quad xzt, I have never used it but it seems to be more or less the same thing as the 60 horse setting on the race box but it is not adjustable, and it is cheaper. I didnt notice in your sig but if you havent done it already lose the muffler or get a high flow unit, I would jugest a muffler delete pipe from genos, cheap and easy and if you dont like it you could prolly sell it on here and get a highflow muffler.

I hauled, 9 big 4wheeler from west Ga to east Tx on a 7 ton flat bead and we had 2 of the bikes on the deck over the neck catchin wind. With the quad on 60 I hit 1450 goin up some hills in Mississippi but I had my foot to the floor in 6th doin 80-82, just to give you a referance on the egts.

Lrdchaos, I agree on the tracing. If you're inline before the ECM there is no trace, it's the downloaders you must worry about.

wap, I hear you on the EGT..... That's one of my biggest concerns. However I don't want to start making any mods that can't be easily undone yet. The truck is brand new (1,600 miles) and will certainly need to go in for warranty work. Once I have 20-30K on her I will start doing things like the exhaust and turbo. I plan on adding an intake system (easily removed) and 2 speed box like a US GEAR unit or Gear vendor (could only void rear end warranty) in the next couple of weeks which will give me the ability to control EGT better through RPM. I think I'll be OK.

Thanks

Dont make any discisions cause I said so but MY dealer wouldnt void my worranty for intake and exhaust mods, I would think that would be the case in most all dealerships but I dont really know.

My last truck was a superduy, it had a hypertech, lift, 35" tires straight pipes, k&n, throttle body spacer, etc, etc, etc. I had a new pressure plate and fly wheel, as well as clutch, front and rear hubs, the tranny done twice if not three times, and I cant remember what else. All under warranty.

It is strictly up to the dealer, DC doesnt know what you do or do not have on your truck at the time of failure. I suggest you find a good dealer.

The only thing I would change on my truck if a warranty issue arose would be pull the box off, and not cause I would be worried about it more of a respect/curtious thing I guess.

I any event, good luck

I have the Quad race box and mounted the switch below the cigarette lighter. If asked I tell them that it is for my adjustable shocks. Of course it is unhooked and removed before servicing!

Best bang for your buck!!!
