Raptor lift pump questions

A few questions for those of you who have a Raptor lift pump.

1. Do you regret not getting an Airdog?

2. Do you like the pump?

3. Has it been reliable?

4. Did you install it inside or outside the frame?

5. Would the inlet and outlet be reversed if I mounted it inside the frame?

6. Was the installation difficult?

Trying to decide between a Raptor or an Airdog for Christmas and I'm leaning towards a raptor for ease of installation.

Thanks for the input.

So far so good, the motor is probably same between the airdog and raptors, just different pump/housing.

Inside

Yes, but the kit comes with 90* fittings for the pump, and it allow for nice sweeping turns into and out of the pump with the fuel lines.

i regret not going to a mechanical pump over the raptor. the raptor is pretty noisy to me but i guess it works just fine...no complaints otherwise. but with a mechanical pump such as the fuel boss from GDP or the Mitusa kit, your fuel pressure would actually rise when on the throttle where as the Raptor still drops slightly when you hammer down. not a big deal but i'm just sayin, that would be the best setup with the raptor or airdog being 2nd imo.

I understand the benefits of a mechanical pump, I just think the Raptor would be the easiest route in terms of installation and it will support more power than I will ever have (maybe ). Anyway, thanks for the input guys.

I spent alot of time looking for a replacement pump. Airdog just got going up & again, thinking was 08ish, not sure. But anyways I went with the Raptor 100. Your first ? to your self, how much power do you really want/need. There is always somebody with more $, so I decided I dont need over 500hp ever. Stock truck pulled more than I need. The 100 is go for 550hp & down, 150 is good 550hp & +. The great thing about the 100 is it hooks to the stock cannister, supplied with a dorman fitting. If you can wiggle up your truck, dont even have to take off the box or drop the tank. It wont be alot of fun, but can be done. I didnt go with the airdog as fuel filters for it are not the easy to find. I put a filter that I can get @ work or any truck shop across north america, auto parts store, etc. I likely would have gotten the airdog, but there filters didnt interest me. The pump has been great for me. I mounted it inside the frame rail behind the transfer case. I wish the inlet/outlet were switch, as the inlet is on the front, outlet on the back, heard that the new ones are suppose to be fixed, not sure thou. Install was very straight forward. I have also installed a airdog 150 on buddies 06. It was pretty much the same install, other than he went with the bigger unit, so had to mod the fuel cannister. I see the new air dog come with the adjustment screw like the raptor, so you can set pressure were you want it. Mine came set @ 15psi, when I lay into it, drops to 12ish. I happy with the raptor, would buy it again. But I did install a 2mic filter before the CP3 pump. So I kinda a have a cheaper version of the airdog, but I didnt want to crawl under the truck to change filters, its under the hood.

I have no issue with noise on my Raptor. It's slightly louder than the stock canister pump. Can't hear it with the engine running.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I just ordered a Raptor 150 from the DTR Store. I hope they did actually switch the inlet and outlet because I want to put mine inside the frame, guess we'll see.

The Raptor 100 is good for a lot more than 550.
I got an AD100 hooked to a Liberty canister and ended up having to mod it for the AD return.
If I knew then what I know now I'd have gone for the Raptor and added a 2 micron filter before the CP3.

Also Randall if you have an in tank pump you'll still need to remove the canister to take the pump out of it.

Yeah, I know. That's why I am thankful that my pump is not in the tank. Makes installation much easier (hopefully).

I use a Fleetguard FF5320, which is there version of Cats 2mic filter. Cost less, not sure if its a good or worse. Forgot the Cat part #, that filter has been on alot of semis in the last 15+ years. So you can get it anywere. As far as vp44 fuel inlet pressure I dont know. I read that 15lbs is good for the CP3. Might have to read the 2nd gen forums, I think another inline filter is a good idea, 1st one to catch abit of water, bigger stuff, then the 2nd filter to get ride of the fine stuff.

On the hp levels, that was the info I got in the spring of 08, guess its changed then. As far as noise levels, I cant hear my pump unless I get under the truck. Its bolted to the frame rail with the supplied brackets, didnt bother with any rubber or etc.

I wasn't talking what they rate them at, just what people on this forum and others are saying.

There was a lotta complaints a while ago about noisy AD's, I woulda thought they'd fixed that by now, I can't hear mine over the motor, nice and quiet.
