Wink Quite Exhaust with Good Flow

I have a 03 Ram 2500 5.9 SO with Edge Juice w/attitude, K&N air intake.
I need to upgrade the exhaust to something better as I want great performance but I want to keep it as quite as possible. Any thoughts ??

I also have a question on trans temp guages, my Edge Attitude does not monitor the trans temp and I need recommendions to resolve this??

Thanks, Phil

Nelson 51"

Hey there, after using the search button on numerous occasions I put a 51" Nelson muffler on my 2004.5, and I am very pleased. I paid $65 dollars for the muffler and $25 dollars to be welded up professionally. It sounds like stock at idle just a little deeper. At highway speeds sounds totally stock. When you lay into it lets out a deep growl that turns heads..... the best of both worlds! I am not old I just have had all types of mufflers (Flowmaster, Borla...etc) and have come to the conclusion that I don't want the interior noise all time. Very cheap upgrade that you will be happy with..maybe alittle better fuel economy to boot. Do a search on the Muffler part number then find a local 18 wheeler parts dealer which you can usually find in most towns. Give them the part number and they probaly can order or even have them in stock. Later.

I also have a new intake and a performance box.... with the Nelson I notice that the turbo spools up faster. Just my 2 cents

Where did you buy the Nelson muffler?
Did it fit on the stock exhaust system and line up well?

Thanks Jon

My Banks exhaust fit great, has a little more noise but hardly noticable in the cab. I ended up with is after I tried a 5" Magnaflow which was way too loud for my taste.
Also you shouldn't need the tuner to monitor the trans temp, if your towing keep an eye on it but I think the only system out that even monitors trans temp is the Banks with the PDA. Everyday driving the trans temp shouldn't be an issue. Good luck!

Or the harder way would be to put a dump and cutout on it.

The Edge Juice with the Attitude controller also displays trans temp

I purchased it from a Fleetguard distributor here in Laredo. I am not for Laredo just staying here for my work. I will look at my receipt today and see the name of the business and post later. You may look for a truck dealer or parts dealer in your area as well. It fit perfectly...just have them cut right behind the cat with sawzall and then they will have enough room for the new muffler. They had to slightly angle the muffler up on the back to line up with everything but trust me you can not even notice. I am very particular and I can't even tell because it does not hang low. Anyways if you have any other questions let me know.

Ok I forgot to add that one of the main reasons for just adding the muffler and not the entire aftermarket exhaust is because my 2004.5 has a 4inch exhaust from the turbo. Also if I ever upgrade to twins or a bigger turbo I won't be out tons of money when I go up to a 5inch exhaust. Who knows I my never go up...these trucks have mad power!

I put on the 51" Nelson and it was a little louder than stock. It was loud enough to drown out all the drivetrain noise but the bad thing was, it sounded like a trashcan. Higher rpm with my 4.10s was really irritating. So, I got a pack of fiberglass insulation and packed the chambers, completely wrapped the outside and covered it with more sheetmetal (I also do sheetmetal work). Now I have an 11" dia. muffler-in-a-muffler and it really IS as quiet as stock. I love it - the only thing I hear is a deep rumble from the tailpipe. Craig

Trash Can sound

That's funny "Trash can" Mine sounds great but maybe because I have 3.73's and the RPM's are not as high. What does a trash can sound like? Anyways different strokes for different folks.
