Questions on lift pumps

So, I see where everyone runs the Walbro 392 or Holley Blue. I know everyone says the walbro is great because it can run high pressures and has a good reliability history. Most people I see that run a Holley Blue say they use it because it sets the pressure at 14 psi, which from what I've heard is close to the rating that Bosch said the CP3 is set for in the Cummins. I've also heard that higher pressures can result in higher rail pressures from some people, and that higher pressures don't affect rail pressures from other people. I've heard that the CP3 is a 3 stage pump and the low pressure side has no affect on the high pressure.
I'm kind of curious where the flow rates come in to the mix here. The Walbro is about 70 gph no load, and the holley 110 gph no load. Wouldn't a higher flow rate be ideal or does it not matter? Unless I'm thinking wrong a higher flow rate would mean a cooler pump. I'm also curious why nobody used the Holley Black which flows 140 gph at 14 psi.
Please correct me on all the stuff that I'm wrong on here.
