Question on TIMING only...
Ok,
Is there a box that allows for timing advance only? Or is there a way on my 04 to advance the timing. I havent been able to find anything yet though i searched for many hours both here and abroad. It seems that timing only could result in about 30 - 40 HP and improved fuel economy.??? If this is correct then it seems like an extremely user friendly way to gain a little extra power and efficiency from our trucks. I think there was a way to advance the timing without a box on the older models but i havent been able to find anything along those lines on the current trucks. It would appear that Banks and TST make good products that affect both timing and pressure. However i am not interested in that level of power (not yet at least) nor that level of MONEY. (this from a man who bought a $40,000 truck..heh). Anyway if anyone has any info on timing only solutions i would be more than happy to listen
Thanks.

I don't think there is anything on the market to date that does timing only. I could be wrong, but I believe the timing is done within the ECM, all electronic, fluctuating depending on conditions. What you could do though, is buy the TST box and run it on power 1 / torque 0. This is a timing only feature that TST built in for the folks that are after mileage only. Of course, there is the money thing and I bet it wouldn't stay at 1/0 very long.
Barrett_Fodder,
When I talked to PDQ Performance, they claimed the 0-60-100 Volumizer uses timing only on the 60 hp setting. On the 100 hp setting it uses timing and fuel pressure. They also claimed it advances timing during cruise as well as WOT operation. From my experience with it, this appears to be correct although the MPG gain was less than what I had hoped for.

60 HP from timing alone? doesn't sound right. The TST level 1 is timing only and is 40 HP. thats clearly the way to go if you want fuel economy.
I wouldn't exect the VA to improve mpg beyond any other pressure box. As pressure boxes go, they are at or near the top as far as I'm concerned , but they don't do timing.

Good info on the boxes. I think your prolly right about a little fuel being sprayed with the 60hp setting, does sound a bit high for timing only. Sorry to hear that there is no hardware/manual setting for timing. Boss what kind of MPG improvement did you get from your box? And what have some of the more popular boxes been getting if any? such as TST and Edge? ... Thanks again for the input...

I really don't care to get in a p*ssing match here, but I am more than happy to donate a "timing" and pressure box for someone to compare to the Volumizer. I think someone is slightly confused.
I think it will clear the fuzzy edges up really quick.
Let me know if someone wants to try one for a few days.

As I told you, I was trying to decide between you and the Voluminzer. I sent the same set of questions to RPM Outlet and spoke on the phone to PDQ. PDQ's response to me was exactly as I stated earlier in this thread. They also said their 0-60-100 box would not set any codes and thus far it has not.
I made my selection based on the information you and PDQ provided to me. I really wanted timing advance (and 140 hp) but I did not want any codes. The Volumizer may or may not do exactly what they claimed. I have no waying of knowing but it does provide the performance increase I was looking for without setting codes.
Has something changed in your box from January? Have you now decided that your 0-70-140 box does not set codes and is not "Race Only"? Have you decide that your 0-50-100 box really does advance timing? Or are you saying that PDQ lied to me about their box and it really does not do timing as they claim? Or are you saying their claim of increased mpg based on timing is false? If so, I will quickly be in contact with them.
By all means, please, clear up the fuzzy edges. But unless something has changed, I do not wish to run a "Race Only' box on my daily driver. But thanks for the offer.

While the box does deliever an increase, it has thus far not lived up to the advertising claims. I keep very careful records and it gets 1/2 to 1 mpg better in my normal drive-to-work environment (18 miles each way, two stops, 60 mph). I have not yet had an extended tow or 70 mph trip.

Boss,
Yeh i was hoping for a little better improvement that .5 - 1 mpg but i guess i cant have everything...heh. BTW what were the Volumizer's mpg claims? I havent been able to find any mpg specs on their website. Should be interesting to see what the juice/attitude have coming down the pipe...
Quad,
If you wanted to donate one to ME say sometime this week I could return it to you sometime in late 2009 maybe early 2010...lol. That should give about 200,000 miles worth of testing. Should be very thorough. Let me know if that sounds good. J/K
