24-28mpg is dream world stuff unless it's all down hill with a tail wind to boot!!! Fill in your signature with information about your truck and there are plenty of folks here to set you straight!!

I have seen 24 MPG in my truck twice but average it 16.5-18.5 MPG after nearly 25k miles. Those high numbers are from looking at the overhead which is thrown off by the performance boxes. The boxes raise the fuel rail preasure so more fuel gets ingested than the trucks computer thinks. Boxes start at approx $300 dollars and go up depending on what you want. Gauges are a good bet too. Some people see MPG gains from running a box but it takes alot of self control to keep out of the throttle. Most people seem to stay the same or loose MPG.

I couldn't have said it better... If you drive the same most boxes will help MPG some. But most of us get boxes, and use our new found power. Thus mileage stays about the same. But the fun factor goes up.

You can usually feel a nice difference when you add a module. The best module for you would be the Quad XZT. They usually give a nice increase in fuel economy (if you drive normal) and are VERY inexpensive. A smaller box like this is not going to hurt your truck at all just make it run better. Here is a link to some more information on the Quad Box: http://quadzillapower.com/products/xzt-series.html

repeat after me, mileage is more about how/where you drive the truck than what you have plugged in to the engine. It can't be said enough. You can get horrible mileage on a stock engine just as easily as you can with a modified engine if you drive it like you stole it. If you race stoplight to stoplight for an entire tank, don't expect good fuel mileage. If you run 70 mph on the interstate for 8 hrs, chances are you're going to see good fuel economy. That said, it's hard not to play once you add power....

The new ones are real fuel quality sensative. Its easy to gain/loose 3MPG depending on the gas station. Then figure in that the common rail have high boost and fueling parameters coupled with more emissions makes it easy to see. I have read on here that the common rail have 6 degrees less timing built in and the 3rd injection event. All adds up to burning more fuel. I added a quad standard box to mine recently but it will be a while till I can post MPG figures.

A 2500 will get 2-3 mpg better than a 3500 and a 6 speed will get 1 mpg better than a 5 speed. And a 2wd will get 2-3 mpg better than a 4wd.
Both your trucks seem about right mpg.
