Quadzilla - 2006 MPG Issues

First off, the guys at Quad have been great in trying to figure out what the deal is, I have no complaints about Quad's help.

I had a Xzillaraider on my 2004 2500 Quad. Like normal, the more miles I tacked on the better the mileage got. At the end of the day, with an AirRaid filter and no other mods I would see an average of 18.5 combined driving and 20-22 on the highway at 60-70 MPH, all on setting 3 (highest).

I trade in my 04 and get an 06 Mega, drive it 5k. Took it in to Dodge for something minor, had em recalibrate for my 33's. While they had it there they reflashed/updated the ecm, I took it home and installed my newly updated Xzillaraider (took it to Quad here in town to update it for 06 models).

Bottom line is that now I get 15.75 average stock, which is about right with 33's. Put on the Quad box and their new digital controller and I might see 15.5 but typically see 12.5-15 MPG...which is terrible and it doesn't seem to matter much what setting I use. That's right, the mileage drops. Now remember I had it on my 04 so it's not like hammering on it... in fact I'm pretty much a poster boy for the speed limit.

I have also had it die on me and surge terribly a few times. Quad has checked the box, hardware and software and finally gave me another one to try... no difference, although I haven't had but one stumbling issue going down the highway (it kept going). Me and Quad both have gone over the harness but can't find anything obvious.

I've talked to a few other guys that did the same thing, traded up to an 06 and are having the same mileage issue. I think it's a software issue in combination with the updated 06 ecm but am curious if anyone else is seeing this. I'm no programmer so I'm purely guessing.

Worked great on my 04 and makes killer power on my 06.. MPG is just killing me.

Anyone else run into this?

Check your stock mileage again! I own 2 of them and no matter what I have never been able to get 15mpg or better when running stock. I have seen 18mpg with the cruise set on 70mph for a long time. That will never happen again.

So my advise would be to check the stock mileage again or even for a couple of tanks to make certain you are getting 15.75 stock. Then you can see if it is really hurting or helping???

My 06 has increased 2.5 to 3mpg hand calc since I installed the Quad "S" and leave it on L2. I got a little spunky today and it dropped from 17.2 to 15.3 on the O/H. My overhead has been off in my favor by 1.2mpg or so since I got her, but I do hand calcs to check periodically.

I have logged my mileage religiously for 35k miles... trust me when I say I know exactly what mileage this thing gets.

My 04 was an 04.5 HO, basically the same engine I have in my 06. I pulled the box yesterday after my last tank on setting 3, got a whopping 15.2 MPG which is less than I get stock.

On my 04 my Quad was good for 4 MPG on setting 3, about 2MPG on setting 2 and pretty much even on setting 1 vs stock.

On both my 03 and my 06 I saw those same results. Went through the same process you are (several times), and still the same results. I chalked it up to bad luck on my side, and got tired of standing in line at USPS, so I sold it and went with something different.
I am currently considering stacking the standard, or race with my Smarty. But I'm holding off to see if my tranny is going.....

I have no doubt that you keep accurate logs of mileage. My question was more like, how long has it been since you checked the mileage stock? If it has been a couple months then that might be some of the problem. It is getting hotter and hotter and mileage is going down right now. Long comes Sept and the mileage will go right back up.

The 06 and some 07 trucks do seem finicky but, overall we do not have many mileage complaints. I mean they don't do as good as the 03-04 trucks but, they are not horrible!

I would think that with only 5K miles on your truck, you can't expect great mileage, at least not compared to a seasoned truck. This is my second 06 and in my experience you have to put 10k to 15k miles on them to start getting decent mileage. Heck according to the Dealer unless you pull 15k-20klbs "HARD" you won't break the motor in till 100K miles. At least that's what my dealer told me.

I dont' think it is the box. IMO

Good luck.

As I stated above, I have over 35K on my 06 and keep mileage records for every tank of fuel. I kept detailed records for my 04.5 for over 55k, so I have a very good understanding of my past mileage and the conditions. I can understand not getting my 4MPG increase like I did on my 04... well, kinda... but for it to go down on my 06?! Something's not right.

I have a 06 long bed quad cab 4x4 with 25,000 miles,3.73 gears and a Quad XZT. I took it on a 500 mile round trip today [all interstate] and got 18.9 MPG. This is the best it has ever done. Around town is a different story, it gets anywhere from 13.6 to 15 MPG if I am lucky.
Had to send the XZT in once to get checked out the truck semed down on power. They sent it back said it checked out o.k, truck ran fine. The XZT has been on it sence new.
Quadzilla is a great company to deal with.
