Quad or Smarty?

I like the on-the-fly adjustability, ease of installation (as in no bits & bytes transfers), and boost fooling of the Quad Race - but I'm concerned how well it may stack with future fueling boxes/downloaders.

I like the Smarty's power, flexibility, tire size adjustment and how well it plays with other boxes - but I want boost fooling and wish the levels could be changed while driving.

I really don't want to buy multiple boxes/downloaders/foolers right now - what's the best choice to do everything reasonably well?

well I would say TST R49 with pressure. then after you want more Smarty your going to need supporting mods in between the two. TST has boost pressure and EGT gauge and can adj. on the fly. dont know anything about the Quad I would pick Smarty but you will need gauges with either. clutch fuel sys the list goes on.

You already know the one you REALLY want, you are just rechecking yourself by asking us on here.....

All you gotta do is say, "hey Robert....Can I borrow your Smarty for a little while".

Then you will have the answer to your question.

You can change the levels by how far you push on the skinny peddle.

Speaking of that, I need to put mine back on 7 or 9....after that last towing trip.

I have been watching all these SMARTY threads and have a few questions! My t ruck is my work truck and because of my oilfield job I travel to some really crappy places at some really crappy times of the night. Llike Marrero New orleans area to get to some docks. My 03 was pretty reliable with the EZ and it made a huge difference in the truck. I have to admit though the difference wasn't really noted until I changed the exhaust but it was a huge difference in the truck over all.

Ok now to my 05. I do not know if there will be an extreme seat of the pants difference with a close ratio 6 speed except I will be shifting sooner! But I have been told that I would not feel the EZ in the 05 like I did the 03. So, I have been reading all these threads closely. If I have more power at my hands I know I will use it! So, that Is why the SMARTY kinda scares me!
How many programs does the SMARTY hold in it at one time? SO, if my truck breaks say in HOuston will the Smarty be able to put the stock program in without having to go back to the computer to load the stock software?
Also, will Smarty enable high idle on a manual?

If you were in my shoes what would you do?

Reliability being the key issue would you atill use the SMARTY?

I have run the EZ and now have the SMARTY on my '03. The SMARTY wins by a big margin. Much smoother throttle inputs compared to the EZ. No surging with the cruise control. Makes the EZ feel very crude. SMARTY set at level 3 (60hp+timing) feels more powerful than with the EZ set at 70hp. I'm running now on level 5 (90hp+timing) with no ill effects other than torturing the Michelins.
The SMARTY is a downloader so the ECM can only handle one program at a time. Always carry the SMARTY unit with you on the road just in case something happens and need to go back to stock.

You can eliminate one or the other real quick by asking yourself 2 questions...
  • How important is in cab adjustability
  • How to you feel about the ECM be reprogrammed as opposed to being lied to

mikey is absolutely spot on, keep the smarty in the truck. it takes about 2-3 minutes to reload the factory program, and it can clear codes as well. the only reliability problem i had when running the smarty was the factory clutch, but i have other mods that push the clutch to the edge, the smarty has several levels, you dont always have to run around on level 9.

dieselram, i will pm you the details.

The scary thing about Smarty is if I have it I will use it!

How many different programs does the SMARTY have stored in it?

DOes it enable high idle on a manual?

I checkbook is really starting to hate dtr!

You have an analog boost gauge - how high does it get with the Smarty?

I have most of the other/supporting mods already; great intake & exhaust, full gauges, water/meth, nitrous, linelock, suspension upgrades, etc.

I plan to get a SB clutch and F-1 valvesprings when conditions warrant.
Turbo only if (when? ) this one grenades...
