quad box acting up?

a question for quad or anyone else who may have an answer. A while back truck started cutting out or missing on a light throttle up hill, such as creeping on a logging road. If you gave it throttle it would clean up and go.
It also does not seem to have the power it once did with the box. If I unhook the box completly and run stock, the truck runs better than it did when I first got it. has good power, smooth ect. I had an issue with low fuel and had the in the tank fuel pump installed. It has run good since. Back to the box ,with it on it cuts out at lower rpms under light load, power does not come on very smooth, it makes more power than stock but it does not make a huge difference. Is this box going out? I had a banks box on my 00 and it did'nt run very good at all. It was low on power, response ect. I pulled that box off and had more power stock. It was making less power, put a va box on and was very happy. Any ideas on the quad box? connection have dialetic grease, no check engine lights, no error codes flashing on the box, hooked up correct according to the paperwork. If I dont get something figured out with this box I am looking at either getting another va box or edge juice.

where is the module mounted? I realize in the cab, but mounted to what?

the box is very unlikely to go out. heat, moisture, and vibrations are the biggest killers of electronic components. Mounting in the cab eliminates those 3 issues.

if the fuel got too low, they did the intake pump install, there is good chance that the pump sucked up junk from the tank and now the filter is plugged slightly. thats why quad recommended changing the filter.

does your quad harness have the pink tps wire and is it hooked up?

I have changed the fuel filter twice since this problem showed up. I have the box mounted under the dash next to parking brake. The harness has the connection to the map and to the rail and also plugs into the test port located on drivers sided about half way back on the block, had a plug in the harness from the factory. I only experience this cutting out with the box hooked up. If I unhook and run stock it goes away.

OK a couple of quick questions for you then.

When did you get the module?
Which module is it?
IF it is adjustable does it do this in all power levels or just in a particular power level? <ignore if you have an xzt>
If you can get it to me what is the serial number?
Does it happen only at light throttle positions or just anytime you have it turned on?
You say it does not have much power over stock, is that at light throttle or at WOT?

The module does not loose its program or anything like that. If it used to make power and still makes power but it is less then there is likely something else wrong. The electronics will either work or they will not work. Now there could have been something go out inside the module but that is pretty unlikely.

How long did you run it before it started having this particular problem?

There was a software update issued for a similar type issue a LONG time ago but, that may or may not be the answer depending on when you got the module. Typically though if it is an older one you should have noticed it a long time ago? The fix was for a "miss" at light throttle but, the trucks all ran very good. If it is an older module then the fix is simple. If not we will have to do some research.

stick your module way up the dash, to the inboard of the columm as high as you can get it, you should be able to see the led through the gap in the plastic trim above your knees and the side of the columm. When it is cutting out, watch the led. make sure it isnt flashing or going through its start up flash sequence. get the serial number and record the flash sequence(which colors in what order) that will give quad the indication as to which program flash you have.

mine missed when I had it mounted to the brake light switch box, when I shoved it way up the columm, I have not had another problem.

quad,
I will have to get the rest of the info for you, hopefully later tonight. I did want to add that this morning my truck kicked a code 69 map barometric pressure coeiffeiciecy(spelling?) This is the only code the truck has kicked since buying last december. I will be honest and upfront with you on the module, I did buy it used, supposedly only used a short time. It may have old programing in it as I am not sure of the date it was manufactured. It is a standard 100 hp box. If there is something you can do to figure out what it is doing then great. If not, due to the fact I bought it second hand, I understand. To answer some of your questions it cuts out in all power levels at low rpm. It is also not very smooth power delivery. I know your probably going to ask about fuel pressure, I dont have a gauge. It has had the in the tank fuel pump conversion done within the last month or so and fuel filter changed recently. Volant air filter cleaned .Another thing I noticed egts seem to be running a little higher as well. Pulling camp trailer end of August I tried pulling on the 60 hp, 30 and stock and was able to hit 1300-1400+ degrees on some of the hills. It did'nt seem to tow much cooler on the lower setting than the higher. Any help would be appreciated.
thanks

Probably the best thing to do is to call our tech department. We will still get it fixed for you even though you are not the original owner. This is provided that something has not been blatantly messed up somehow but, that does not appear to be the case.

I am happy to help you on here as well but, it would probably save a lot of time and effort to call the tech guys and tell them you think it is an older unit and get it into us to check it all out and make sure everything is up to date.

Once that happens you should not experience any of the issues that you are seeing now unless you have some other problem but, I doubt that is the case.

They will check the harness, module and switch.

Toll Free number is 888-842-6572 and just ask for tech anytime Monday through Friday from 9-6pm central time. Or if those hours don't work well there is a tech support link on our website and you can email them.http://www.quadzillapower.com/contacts.html

Let me know if you need anything else.

This is what I call customer service! Quad definatly stands behind his products. I had a problem with a banks box on my 00 and they were not very helpfull at all. I knew then I would never buy another banks product again and everyone I talk to about diesel stuff hears about it. I work in a auto parts store and steer people away from banks, I will definatly steer them towards quad.

thanks quad, i will call monday or tuesday of next week.
