Unhappy Pyrometer Died...why?

Was coming up 160 West through Colorado (La Veta Pass) when my engine’s temperature gauge went to 240 degrees. Of course like an idiot, I had the air conditioner on and I’m pulling on the heavy side. So I turn off the air and pull over to allow things to cool. When I started my engine back up, my pyrometer gauge was dead, nothing, notto, zilch. The sending unit, or probe, is installed in the exhaust manifold (pre-turbo). Anyone have any idea what could have gone wrong? It’s brand new, just 3 days old and it was installed by a well known shop. Any ideas would highly be appreciated. The brand of the pyrometer is AutoMeter by the way.

The first thing I would check is 12 volt power to the gauge. If the gauge is getting 12v then look for disconnected or damage pyrometer wires.

if you can't figure it out, take it back to the shop that did the work. any "well known" and reputable shop should fix it for nothing!!

Had this happen to me - was confusing because I still had light to gauge, so I ignore possible electrical problem in beginning. Than realized light is different hook up. Problem was my 12v hook up in fuse box (on drivers door side of panel). Wire came disconnected and was dangling in mid air. If that's where your installer hooked gauge for power, you should see it easily.

I managed to take the truck back to the shop where they replaced the probe. The gauge started to work but it was jumpy and would stick. So they replaced the gauge and now I’m good to go. The problem was that I was 4.5 hours away from the shop but once I got there, they got me right in and back on the road again within good time. Thanks for all the suggestions.
