MANY opinions....I suggest you search for 'pyro mount'....https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...archid=1364179

Doesnt the number 1 cylinder run hottest?? If so I would think you would want the prob mounted on top towards the 1-3 side of the manifold. I would think it would give you a better average then right above the turbo. I would want to see the hottest exhaust temp the engine has.

This is where mine is mounted....I 'creatively' borrowed the pic from this thread...https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...gt+probe+mount
This is where mos have their probes placed.

I mounted mine of the top of the manifold, just rear of the stock heat shield.
A few months back someone posted a vid of a turbo powerplant on a dyno, and you could see the manifold/header turn red. The manifold turned the brightest red, and changed colors the quickest, right before the turbo where the cylinders all join.
If I had to do it over again I think I would drill it in right before the manifold dumps into the turbo..

Could that also be caused by the manifold being slightly thinner right there? I am not saying it is, because I don't know, but if it were thinner, it would show heat on the exterior side the fastest in that area.
I had to put mine in the same place thuren put his, only because I couldnt' get my drill inbetween the mainfold and the body of the truck to mount it between cylinders 2 & 3. Where they all converge and dump into the turbo.
It's the same place that the Commander directions shows in the picture.
