I do it all the time no trouble at all you dont need 4:10,s tho to do it but the std tranny is nice and a would defintly say a dually is better the auto will handle it if you do just ocasionally but if not you will need to upgrade. If you can get a trailer with electric over disc hydraulic brakes that would be be the best, but electric brakes work fine i just make sure that mine are adjusted all the time and working. just drive with some brains and you'll be fine.
Thats about everything i had thought just wasnt 100% sure. The most i have pulled with this truck so far has been about 22k but the new dozer will put that up close to 27k plus the truck its self.
I pull a D4 cat with my '03 3500 SRW, on a 7500lb. gooseneck, we only pull ours on our gooseneck with the 12,000lb. axles under it, the 10,000lb. axles dont seem to keep bearings for long with that kind of load on them, brakes are the only issue, i wish i had an exhaust brake, and my rear air bags make a huge difference in handling, reducing the swaying due to the single rear tires, but make sure you run a 10 ply tire with plenty of air in them, i havent weighed the '03 with this combo, but my 99 flatbed 4x4 dually weighed 39,400lbs. pulling the dozer, to put it this way, it makes our powerstrokes make funny noises and blow smoke everywhere when they pull it, i try not to pull it much anymore, that needs to be left up to our lowboy, but i will admit that the 3rd gen trucks make these loads seem lighter than they really are, all i can say is that i'm impressed with these trucks.
Id say leave the motor stock, and Put a good TC, and VB in the tranny along with some nice overloads on the rear. Also might want to see what the best tire/wheel combo for you to run is, and put an exhaust brake on your truck. That should handle it, but a 6 speed dually would be your best bet.

if i was you i wouldn't worry about it. i have trailers that weigh a little shy of 15,000lb empty. then set a 18,000 lb backhoe on top of that. or the 30 round bales of hay weighing approx. 1100 lb a piece. all of that behind a 1 ton. like i said i wouldn't be worried about it.want a pic of the load of hay i can send it so you know i'm not full of it.
My friends dad pulls their 300 series JD Dozer with his 01 cummins on occasion I have seen it twice but they have pulled it more. His truck is a completely stock 3/4 with an auto. It has a little trouble on the first hill out of the drive way but it is a monster for this area. Once he gets moving though its smooth sailing. The auto is definitely your weak spot.
what about dot with gvcw ratings most trucks are good for 21000lbs or there about my 2003 s/o is good for 18900 and I do pull a tractor and trailer now and then that is 12500 lbs, so just over but at 19000lbs trailer and dozer I think it is a bit over
dont need 4.10's? i beg to differ with a stock auto tranny and pulling that kind of load all the time???? please explain. i cant imagine varying speeds in hill country with high gears auto tranny and that monster load behind that the truck.
