Question Programmer, Downloader, mileage max, maxmileage??

Sorry for the long thread!

OK I have been wanting SOMETHING to add a bit more power to my truck but mainly something to help out my MPG's. My truck is my lively hood, my daily driver, my money maker so im not looking to go all out. I have read and read on here and it seems the more I read the more confused I get about all of the options out there....

Now my mechanic (mainly does all the maintenence on my trailer) recommended me to get the Edge Juice with Attitude for few reasons first I dont have any gauges (which I want to get) and to obviously have the programmer he recommened it over the Quadzilla Xzill and Commander for I guess personal experience (he deals with quite a few 1 tons) but I have also heard that the Commander with the Xzill II is great and its also cheaper which well with better fuel economy it would take less time for me to "pay it off" but I have also seen the mileage max and the max mileage one being $180 the other $280 but no gauges and getting a decent set of analog gauges that I wanted would be around $500 compete. So I was thinking even if I went with the cheaper mileage max chip and then still put out the $500 for gauges I would be looking at more than the commander and Xzill and not too far off from the Edge juice with attitude.

I know there are more out there then these but these are ones that I see for sale here in the DTR store and read the most on.

I would like to know a few things about each of them like does the Edge measure fuel pressure? I thought I read that the Commander does but not sure about the Edge, also the Edge has a turbo timer does the Commander also? That would be a nice feature for me when I stop to pick up or drop off a load rather than either just letting the truck run or waiting to turn it off.

I want to keep it as best price as possible and have good gains in the MPG department any and ALL info would be GREATLY appreciated I have searched and searched and as I said the more I read the more confused I get!

Also if you have opinions on another programmer with gauges and such let me know im open for a lot right now!

Everyone gets different results with MPG gains on all this stuff. The Smarty supposedly adds MPG to some trucks and has crazy power over a box, but that isnt what you are looking for.

Since it is hit or miss with MPG gains, maybe you should try the Quad Mileagemax since it is money back if it doesnt work for you.

I have an XZT, it definitely adds a nice bit of power. Some people get better MPG with it, I never really checked before and after, so I cant really say what it did for me MPG wise.

You might look at stand alone gauges so you arent tied to a certain box or programmer. I like my Commander alot, most people do, and they are a good price. I am not sure about turbo timer though.

Thanks for the reply, I guess im not looking for JUST MPG gains but then again I am thats why it makes it more difficult, I guess thats why I would want as many opinions as possible with different programs or boxes.

I do want gauges and while yes if I did have stand alone gauges I could get any try anything thing but some prices I have seen for like the Juice w/ Attitude or the Commander W/ Xzill are the programmer and guages in one for good prices where gauges could be just as expensive by themselves and then needing a box/programer on top of that. OK maybe not JUST as expensive but looking at gauages packages through some places with all gauages, wiring, and pillar are around $500 so if I went that route and then just the Quad mileagemax I would be $680 in and have no kind of adjustment compared to say the Commander and Xzill or the juice w/ attitude for either less money or a touch more money.

Again thanks for the reply!

You can usually pick up a used edge with attitude for around $450-550. Watch e-bay, craiglist, and even the classified section on here. I picked mine up for $500. I would also consider the Quad commander and Xillerator 2. It is fairly new, but allows you to downloand several differant programs, including the Max Milage burn!!! So you could have gauges, on the fly adjustability, and Max Milage. Quad is working on re-desinging the Commander, so I think I am going to wait to see what other features he puts into it, then will probably try his setup.

The Commander will monitor more things like, fuel pressure and tranny temp for autos. The Edge attitude does not.

I have herd some edge attitudes have the turbo cool down timer. I believe it is on the 03-04 555 trucks. The one for my 05 does not. Hopefully this might be a change in the redesign of the Commander, however in it's present state it does not have the turbo cool down.

I really like both of these setups do to the safty features built into them. With analog gauges and programer you will need to keep a close eye on especially towing. With both the edge and quad setups you get a great bang for the buck!

there's my .02

Thanks for the reply and its the type of reply that I was looking for, I do like the built in protection offered with the Edge and Quad and also I like the fact that for the same price as a decent set of analog gauges you can have so much more with Edge or Quad.

I am also curious about the NEW Commander and wonder what other goodies he will throw into it a turbo timer would be nice!

Again thanks for the reply.

I have the Commander Xzillaraider 2 setup and really like it. Monitors everything I need, has safety features, has an available fuel economy setting, and has 4 power levels over stock. Does just about everything I need and want. Another nice thing about the Commander is it can be used as a stand alone gauge. You DO NOT need a power module to use the monitoring features of the Commander.

It looks like Quad is updating the Commander, but it appears its only going to be an asthetic update. No new functions that I'm aware of. And the turbo cool down feature is/was on Quads to-do list, but its not available yet.
