In my sig you see my 04 with a 6 speed and 5" exhaust. It will most likely get the FASS off my '00 before I sell it.
I have been searching for the last 4 hours on here and feel like I know less now than when I started, my head hurts

I currently have an edge EZ(came on the truck), but as you can see from my previous truck, I need more. I like the milage I pull down with this new truck, mainly the reason I bought it. I don't want to hurt the low 20's I pull if I stay out of it, but want more power.
1 I really like everything I hear about the smarty from all the reading I've been doing. everyone seems to like them
2 I don't see a lot of edge EZ's with the smarty, more of the MP-8. I don't really know what that is, but from reading about it in google searches, I have an idea. it isn't a downloader or a box, right?
3 the twin to this truck (literal, twin, ordered same day, picked up same day) has the EZ stacked with a tst. that gives him his gauges and safety backdown features. I am worried about keeping an eye on all my stuff, so I need something with gauges. the smarty does not offer this. I put gauges in my '00 and had an on the fly adjustable box, and loved both. this adds more cost, complexity and more systems.

I don't consider myself a high horsepower guy. I have a 6 speed and tow up to 30K with some regularity, normally around 20-20K gross combined. It seems that with the tst that this truck's twin is running, I have gauges, temp backdown and power, with the option of a smarty later. Is there a better chip to buy right now with the features of gauges, safety and power/milage that gives me the option of stacking a smarty later (I gather the juice w/attitude doesn't stack with smarty, so no dice there)?
5 Please explain to me the MP-8 and the edge EZ I currently have. advantages of both as far as milage and power. I gather the ez has rail pressure adding on it? How about duration and whatever else. Can this be replaced with another box, or keep it and enjoy it? I want more info on the MP-8, but couldn't find a really good explanation in searches as to what exactly I'm gaining or losing by having 1 or the other.....or whether they're totally different animals and I'm confused.
6 In summation, I really want a little more power, the ability to upgrade later without selling 1 thing to buy another, gauges and safety features, and milage. In each of your own opinions, what is my best bang for my limited buck?

an edge EZ and the ts mp8 are basically the same thing to my understanding. they both plug into the rail and raise rail pressure. from what I have ran, if you want something else to run on the 04, a smarty or bully dog downloader should work good. you can stack the smarty with the EZ or the mp8 but I wouldnt run them up high all the time. its been stated on here alot that pressure boxes are hard on injectors
Even though I am a Smarty fan-- with what you are asking for you might be best suited with the Quadzilla X2 with commander. You can still grow into a Smarty later if you wish... they will stack together fine. TST is another excellent choice as well. Another option to consider is a Bully Dog PMT, but they are a lot of $$$.
what I'm leaning towards, because this truck's twin has it and he likes it. I'm hoping for other suggestions, and thank you for the ones you've presented thus far
again, looking to see if I first need to get an MP-8 and ditch the EZ, or if its a good foundation to start with, then buy a TST, BD PMT, or ??QuadzillaX2 with commander???
thanks for replies and I'll be watchign for more input. The more input, the more informed I am as well as anyone that searches this thread.
to my understanding, these downloaders are what I would be looking at LATER, after I have a programmer that has gauges and safety systems in place.
IMO keep the edge ez i love mine, have had it for near 70,000 miles trouble free. Good milage and decant power, stack it with somthing if you wish to get your gauges. If you went gauges on your a pillar instead id say get a PPE or smarty to go with it, the power is incredable with both. So much you want use it all prob. while towing. Back either unit down to around 80-100 hp leave the ez in place and have fun.
The MP-8 is an adjustable pressure box. It has a dial **** that you can set 0-100% where the EZ only has a few settings. The MP-8 makes a little more power by itself, but stacked I think they are very similar. Quadzilla makes some very good products. They have the Adrenaline coming out soon which should be awesome. I am a Edge fan but the Smarty does not work with the Juice. You can set the Juice on any setting and it does not add any more power. That is OK with me because Smarty will have the TNT tune out which will have all the power I need. I know it is very confusing but there are a lot of people on here with tons of knowledge to lead you down the right path.

made by who? keep the EZ and run this also or switch to something else (MP-8)?

this offers milage, adjustability on teh fly and gauges/safety parameters? I might look into it if it stacks with a smarty well later and likes my EZ for now.

You can use the ez with this, but only at lower levels... some of the Quads programming also does pressure, which is what the ez does.
No need to get rid of ez.. the MP-8 is a little better unit, but not worth the $$$ to ditch ez for MP-8.
The quad and tst are both boxes that can stack with smarty later. Bully Dog PMT is an all in one too but downloads ecm for programming and will not stack with smarty... You can use the ez with it though.
FWIW-- the TST will have most power potential... but any of those listed here will be more than you can use with a stock tranny.
can't stack bully dog and smarty- they're both downloaders. tuners that plug into the map sensor are usually refered to as boxes, and tuners that plug into the diagnostic port are refered to as programmers or downloaders. you can't stack 2 programmers.
looks like:
x2 $432
http://store.dieseltruckresource.com/quxziimo03do.html
with commander $386
http://store.dieseltruckresource.com/quco1.html
$818 before shipping,
OR
Tst PMCR R-49- for about $900 shipped.
Opinions between the 2? 6 one way, half dozen the other?
I'm assuming neither of these do tire size so I need a downloader for that

If you go on TST's website they were running a 100$ off special. I would go TST just because it is so adjustable and it makes awesome power. Some were known for throwing timing sensor codes but I think they have the new ones fixed. That with the Smarty will take care of your clutch for sure.
thank you for all of you help.
Now on to Intake and air filter upgrades....whole different can of worms.
