Predator and puck installed...WOW
Some of you know I was dealing with a BDTD which sucked on my 04. My Predator/Puck stack I picked up for $250 came today. Install was easy. First loaded up the Tow Stack Tune (No Performance Stack tune, only Tow and Extreme) and with the Puck on the low setting it was comparable to the BDTD. On the high setting, slightly better, not much smoke at all. Switched over to the Performance Tune (non stack tune) and the power is much better than the BDTD with still not much smoke. Didn't get the chip solely for smoke, so it's not a big deal. Did some research and it seems I can still flip the Puck on and it will add to the Performance tune, just with less timing...is this correct? BTW thanks for everyone who has replied to my random posts regarding the POS BDTD over the years.
I personally wouldn't bother with the stack tunes. I ran pred Puck combo for years.. Performance tune still has nothing on extreme. Download the extreme puff tune and turn puck up and watch ur tranny toast. That bd will b on eBay in 24 hours!! Lol
I believe you re: extreme tune. Seein' as how I only have 73k easy miles on it I'm gonna stick with the Perf tune and see how long I can make the 48re last. I put a stage 2 shiftkit in in last year and tomorrow I'm doing the Borg Warner gov. press. solenoid and sensor. Adjusted forward band tonight...have about 3 threads still showing above lock nut. I never hammer it from a stop, always just roll into it. When the tranny finally goes I'll get a smarty
i run performance during the warm outside temps and the tow during the winter. MPGs for me drop 4 around town with performance during winter. so i detune to tow and truck gets 18-19 around town with still plenty of power, plus i like my tranny.
One word of warning concerning the puck. The puck is a very aggressive pressure box that is very hard on your injectors and your pressure relief valve. The puck will often take your fuel pressure over 27.5k (highest my gauge goes) which is well over the 24k stock limit and well above the relief valve limit. The relief valve only has so many times to open and shut before it weakens and leaks off pressure and requires replacement. It is not an inexpensive part. Also, high pressure shortens injector life through increased seat and pintle wear and you increase the possibility of catastrophic failure due to too high a pressure. (This can be in the form of a blown tip, pressure traces at the base of the tip-- this allows fuel to flow out sideways where the tip meets the injector body and doesn't have a good enough seal for the pressure involved to send the fuel down the tip passages properly-- or blown check ***** and etc... you get the point)
Just something to be aware of before you get too enamored with the puck... or any other pressure box. It is effective at what it does though.

Don't run perf + the puck. That combo isn't meant to stack. Mine makes BAD rattle sounds on that. There is a perf stack in the custom tunes but don't bother. Mine is slower on the perf stack + puck than perf alone and everyone else says the same thing. No one knows why. I NEVER use puck 90, stack or non-stack, but I've done timed runs (wot, 6th gear, 60-80 mph) with EVERY custom tune, including the stack tunes with and w/o puck 50. Extreme stack (puck off) is a great tune for power and no bad sounds from the engine and then with puck 50, it's only .2 seconds slower than any other non-stack or stack tune/puck 50 and driveability is better and no bad sounds. You will hear some timing rattle right when you let off the throttle but that's not Diablo - it's Cummins programming. Perf is a sweet tune and if you like that - you'll LOVE the power of ext and ext stack + puck. Your trans might take it if you don't nail it at low rpm. Don't stay in it for too long if you don't have a pyro. I don't know if your outlook still works. Craig

Appreciate the reply...good to know re: perf stack tune. I toyed with the thought of putting Ext on it just to see how it felt, but I dunno...no $ for new tranny now...still have the Outlook, pyro never really worked well...give correct peaks, but while your in the throttle the temps are jumping between 250 and 6000...BD never was able to fix me up...tried several different Outlooks, pyros, mounted in two diff locations post turbo and now currently pre turbo where it will stay.
If you want to try a hotter tune but not as hot as regular extreme, try extreme stack with the puck OFF. I'm looking at all my notes and that's the next one up from regular perf and it's noticeably tamer on my 60-80 tests (.3 seconds) than regular extreme. The jump from perf to ext. stack, no puck, is the same as the jump from stock to perf. In other words - Perf is 2 seconds faster than stock and ext stack/no puck is another 2 seconds faster than that... and they only get faster. You'll need to use some self-control but you can get an idea of what the predator can do, if you want to play a little. Unfortunately there isn't much for choices between regular perf and insane. That and the fact that diablo doesn't publish dyno #s for all their tunes are the down sides but I have all the tunes figured out. I'm just trying to eliminate a lot of guesswork for you. I just noticed I never timed a run on the tow/stack tune (puck 50) but I've tried it for towing and it might be a little stronger than regular perf. I only used it once cuz the throttle was pretty aggressive and I remember it was strong but I had too much fun and my mpg went down. You should be safe to try that one and take it easy til you see how it does. Craig
AWESOME! Really do appreciate the post/info...I believe I'll go try that now! Thanks for sharing...BTW...my predator is the U7130...coulda sworn I read you can change the speedo on my 04...can't seem to find the option tho...found speed limiter adjust...but no tire size
I know it's been awhile but I finally changed the tune to stack extreme with the puck off. Great power, but get's hot quick...flipping the puck on to 50 while getting on freeway seems to keep the temps down a bit...thanks again for all the info, hope all is well.
