Plastic air dam under front bumper

Some Edit backed into my truck, and split. It wrecked the plastic air dam under the front bumper. What does it do? Can I just remove it and go without? Thanks!!

Yeah it's fine without it, I have a blizzard plow and haven't had an airdam for 4 years since I had to take it off for the bracket.

You're fine with out it, but it will help a little with fuel mileage. It does not hurt the truck any.

I drove for a while without it and I think the truck looks strange without it. If your front end is rusty, like many are, it really looks bad. I found a cheap replacement on E-Bay and am happy I did.....

Busted mine years ago. Didn't see a change in fuel economy or engine cooling with the air dam removed.

You can get a new one from LMC Truck for $90.

I thought about replacing mine, but I figured with the places I go with my truck it'll probably just get ripped off again anyhow, so I never put one on.

Front air dams that extend down to within 6" of ground -- and "block" the chassis components from air, so to speak -- are a proven way to increase fuel mileage. (I have measured quite a few trucks and found none lower; 7" was bout average; my2WD, stock, shows a 10" clearance.

If one has a lifted or "levelled" truck this benefit may be lost due to height of the overall body. It "may" be most effective with stock front rake.

I got old enough years ago that I stay with stock pieces like this. It isn't just cosmetic, the factory decided that there was a benefit to directing airflow, even if minimally.
