Broke Front Bumper Air Dam Backing Up!

I pulled into a parking lot and didn't realize that my black plastic air dam on the front of my 05 SE Ram had made contact with a higher grass or sod area beyond the concrete wheel stop on the parking lot. When I backed up, I heard a "pop" and went out to take a look. The air dam didn't want to slide backwards off the sod it was pushed into and it grabbed the ground/sod and got pulled back. It didn't completely get pulled-off my bumper, but it did pop some of the screws in the bumper slots/holes where the plastic dam screws in. I was able to "bop the dam back up into position under the bumper with my fist, and it feels fairly tight, but it's got cracks and broken-out spots where it screws into the bumper.

Here's my question. Can I get this black plastic air dam for a 2500 Se Quad cab fairly cheap by avoiding going to Dodge for it? Does anyone off hand know some good prices and sources for new, factory dams for an 05?

the cheap plactic air dam only lasted 2 weeks on my truck before it cracked and broke. I was able to pop it back in but it way tear back off at freeway speeds.

It's just cosmetic so I took it off and it looks just fine w/o it.

Why dont you try the Worlds Largest Market Place...

eBay since they have everthing

That air dam is a POS; it is like using eggs as bumper stops. I had to bolt mine back on too. I can’t see how you can do anything but get groceries with your truck without wrecking the thing. I guess it is there for cosmetic purposes. It might improve aerodynamics a bit however.

Mine is gone. It left the first winter when I climbed over a snow bank.

I've not seen any change in mileage or performance.

Broke mine also. It's off now and like KBennett mentioned, no change in fuel economy or engine temps.

Its a towing thing........air dams create low pressure under the engine bay at hiway speed for good airflow through the radiator and out the bottom of the engine bay. "Part" of GMs problems with the lly overheating was due to changes to the aero package that didn't allow good air flow through the radiator. Our older trucks with the flat front profile made lots of low pressure underneath. When our trucks manufactors dropped the hood line/height hot air would "pack up" in the engine bay and it became necessary to add a dam for towing/haulin heavy at speed. Heat in the engine bay doesn't show up on the temp gauge and it gets mighty hot around the Cummins.

I knew someone would chime in. DC doesn’t know what you will do with the truck so they do the best they can. If you truck never leaves the highway it the plastic air dam will be ok, but if you off road it won’t last long.

Mine's been gone since the brush guard went on, two years ago. No change in engine temps or mileage, towing or not! I think it looks better without it. jmo.

i think it looks better without it as well, but i believe it also has to do with highway speed stability , as wellas cooling as stated in post #7 . if they where strickly cosmetic only, do you really think DC would waste millions upon millions for something they could do away with that the consumer wouldn't even notice??

For several years the airdam was an option. Think it was something like $25.
