oversized tranny pan?

Can I get advice from anyone who replaced their trans fluid pan with an oversized after market pan?

Pulling 10,000# in stop/go traffic in 90 ambient I've seen trans temp hit 230 after about 30 minutes. Backing into a spot I've seen trans temp hit 250 in about 5 minutes.

I'm thinking that extra fluid and perhaps the heat sink fins on those pans might help out?

Which product/price? Did you see decrease in temps? I'm wondering if this is worth it.

I also want to know, mine wouldn't even cool down below 180+ until I drove around the block after backing in my 11,000 lb Fiver(even in 4 low) I let it idle in N but it stayed high until it was driven. Stays very cool while towing though.

Double deep tranny pan

I put on a Mag HY Tech double deep tranny pan. My tranny is running probably 25 to 30 degrees cooler with that pan than previously. I believe it was $265. It also has a pickup for a tranny temp gauge built in. Good investment.

Tranny Pans

davelinde,

Been there and done that already too. I installed one of the pans we sell and got almost 30 degrees drop alone. Tough to read the gauge down to the last degree but it way more than 25 degrees and working it's way to 30. We sell a pan that has 2 extra quarts and does the same as the pans that hold a lot more. The pump and the capacity of the cooler will not allow the extra capacity over 2 - 2.5 quarts do anything for you except sit in the pan. Same progeam for the Fords' and the GM's, if you over fluid them it really only does the guy you buy the fluid from any good. Plus our pans are NOT powder coated, powder coating is one of the best insulaters available, why insulate a cast pan that you are buying for heat reduction. If you insist we will coat them and or polish them but even polishing reduces the heat exchange effect and won't work as well. Finally they are a lot less expensive, you can get a tranny pan and a diff cover for the price of other tranny pans by themselves. Call me if you have any questions or look at the cover/pans our site.

excellent!

25 to 30 degrees off the peaks I'm seeing would be perfect I think. We're about to hit the road, so I won't be doing this for a month or so. I need to let my wife get used to the idea that the truck "needs" something...

Seems like an easy (though maybe messy?) thing to install.

Another thing you can do of course is to go to a good synthetic tranny fluid which will drop it even more. There are a lot of good ones so I don't need to recommend anything.
